Self-govt is a game of poker between citizens and government. Government will always see most of our cards, so as long as we let them hide their cards from us, we're doomed. The people must know whatever government knows, or self-govt & its freedoms will perish from this earth.
Eva Vlaardingerbroek@EvaVlaar

We should be the ones knowing everything about the government, not the other way around. We are private citizens, they are public servants. We pay them in the form of (insanely high) taxes, yet they treat us like potential criminals who need to be monitored 24/7. Why accept that?

American gun ownership may seem strange to the British. But then the British government arresting twelve thousand of its citizens per year for free speech violations seems strange to Americans. Which is truly stranger?

@Mr_Husky1 Man I love stories like this. I almost don't even care if some of them are made up. Even then it's still vice paying tribute to virtue.

I’m a big guy. I’ve been lifting weights for ten years. I look intimidating, I guess. I was at Planet Fitness doing bench presses. I noticed a kid in the corner. He was maybe 16, really overweight. He was looking around like he was terrified someone was going to laugh at him. He walked over to the dumbbells, picked up the lightest ones, and did a few awkward curls. He stopped, looked in the mirror, and hung his head. He was about to leave. He looked like he was about to quit before he even started. I racked my weights and walked over to him. He flinched when he saw me coming. He thought I was going to make fun of him. 'Hey man,' I said. He looked down. 'I’m leaving, sorry.' 'No,' I said. 'I was just gonna say, your form is a little off. You’re gonna hurt your back.' I picked up a weight. 'Tuck your elbows. Like this. Slow down.' He copied me. 'There you go,' I grinned. 'That’s the muscle working.' We trained together for an hour. I showed him the ropes. At the end, he wiped the sweat off his forehead. 'I almost walked out,' he admitted. 'I felt stupid.' 'We all started somewhere,' I told him. 'I used to be 50 pounds heavier than you. The only bad workout is the one you didn't do.' He’s been my gym partner for six months now. He’s down 40 pounds. Strength isn't about how much you can lift. It’s about lifting others up with you. Anonymous

For almost 2000 years, "Palestine" was simply a European Christian term for the "Holy Land" or "Land of Israel" That is why the British chose "Palestine" as the name of the mandate "Palestine" is a foreign, colonial label. The idea it has local historical roots is just stupid

@TheMindScourge Great points. Iran has shot its wad already. And no matter how secure the US and whoever else may make Hormuz passage after this war, it's once bitten twice shy for everyone. Alternative paths will be laid so that it can't be such a chokepoint ever again.

Hormuz is a weapon that can only be fired once No one should expect a quick resolution to the current crisis, but across the next decade, even the next 3-5 years, the choke point of Hormuz will be massively substituted for The Gulf Arab states are all very rich, with high per capita GDP - the best single measure of relative state capacity - easy access to global markets, especially financial, and have the favorable backing of the US Everyone has known about the Hormuz vulnerability for decades. The Iranians have continually hinted around closing it, but never did. Now they have, but Hormuz is a gun that cannot be reloaded. Deterrents work only up to the point of use. Once used, they have failed. The purpose of a deterrent is to *not* be used Many analysts have made this basic mistake. They think that Iran is now in a position of strength, having exercised its Hormuz option. But the opposite is true. A state is weakest after it has used its deterrent. The cost of that deterrence is now priced in. The worst having been done, the targets of the deterrent are now free to make other arrangements. Before, they were reluctant to do so because of the switching costs. Now, they have no choice; they will not allow themselves to be controlled in this way again Hormuz may never reopen. But the importance of this is a depreciating asset.

Democratic Illinois Governor JB Pritzker speaks about a Democratic "Project 2029" in which members of the current Trump administration, along with federal agents, will be criminally and civilly prosecuted. @TAmTrib Four reasons why what you say is correct, and each one is enough on its own. 1) Perp deserves it. 2) Victim and family deserve justice. 3) Deters would-be criminals. 4) Helps clean the streets and gene pool up. This applies to all perps - white, black, Christian, Muslim, etc.

Why does it even matter if he is “remorseful”? It’s not like he egged a house or something…he raped a little girl and stuffed rocks in her mouth so she couldn’t breathe There is one proper reaction to such horrors and it is, sadly, the gallows. That behavior must not be tolerated, whatever the age Recognizing such and acting based on that recognition is what made Europe civilized, and would make us civilized again as well

For those of you not familiar. The A-10 Warthog is the ugliest, most absurdly beautiful killing machine to ever take flight. A flying chunk of titanium molded around a gatlin gun style cannon; the equally absurd 30mm GAU-8. It commands the adoration of troops on the ground as the sound of its unmistakable mating call the “brrrrrrp” overhead means several enemy fighters have been neutralized. It flies low and slow delivering death more intimately than any other fighter jet could fathom. Cloaked in armor, it’s rumored to be able to take damage to 70% of its airframe and still land with ease. It doesn’t need a long or even paved runway. The uppity nerds running the Air Force have decided to “phase them out” this year… yet here they are continuing to “get some”. I personally think that @USMC should take the them over… they fit perfectly in our “take old shit and make it great” culture.

I am going to cry like a baby when I retire. I’m walking down a street two blocks from Skid Row and a woman who I haven’t seen in years sees me and smiled wide as she approached. I didn’t recognize her at first. She looked really great. She paused in front of me and teared up unable to speak for a second. She gathered herself and said “I’m sorry for crying. But that only happens when certain people have impacted my life. You were always so kind to me when I was in Skid Row.” She made my day. I gave her the biggest hug. Thank you Yahweh for the reminders that my walk was not in vain.

@AuronMacintyre It would be if our 7-2 uniparty SCOTUS weren't what it actually is. That said, of course this move should still be made and fought like hell for. Even going down at SCOTUS at least makes it that much clearer for the voters who the players are and what they're really like.

This is probably the most important interview you’ll see this month, maybe even this year. What was done to Michael Caputo and his family is pure evil. What makes it worse is that this continued into 2026 under Pam Bondi and Kash Patel, both of whom would have shut it down had they known. And that is the problem. It was allowed to operate without their knowledge. That is how wide and deep the rot sits. It is not a matter of a few bad actors. It is systemic. You cannot fix something like that by removing one or two people after the fact. That approach just turns into a game of whack-a-mole, with replacements stepping into the same roles and continuing the same abuse under a different name. What is needed is a far more comprehensive response. At a minimum, Bondi should initiate a full internal audit to determine exactly what activities are still ongoing and who is responsible for them. That needs to be paired with a clear directive: anyone still involved in perpetuating Russia collusion investigations or related abuses must come forward within 48 hours or face immediate termination. The same standard should apply across the board, whether it involves targeting Trump, his campaign, aides, or supporters, actions related to school boards, the 2020 election, Project Veritas, or the labeling of Catholics as extremists. The broader point is that passivity is complicity. As Michael warns, these abuses will not fade away. They have been kept alive by failure at the top, and when Democrats regain power, they will escalate them.

@uberminch @aterkel @Petereporter Exactly! He never said, "Every one of the families has told me..." As always with people we don't well enough to be sure about, we're left to wonder how much of it is sheer ignorance and how much malice. As you suggest, what is not in doubt is that these are the only 2 options.
