𝐒𝐫𝐢 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐚 𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐈𝐋𝐎 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝟏𝟗𝟎 ✊🏽🇱🇰 After sustained organising and advocacy by trade unions, Sri Lanka has officially ratified ILO Convention No. 190 on violence and harassment in the world of work. Following the announcement in December, the government formally submitted the ratification to the ILO on 16 April, making Sri Lanka the 55th country to ratify C190. This is a significant step towards ensuring safe, dignified workplaces, especially for women workers. The struggle now moves to implementation—to make sure these protections are realised in every workplace. #SriLanka #C190 #WorkersRights #StopGBVH #TradeUnions #genderjusticela #DecentWork Read our post from December 2025 to know the exemplary role played by the trade unions in ratification publicservices.international/resources/news…

FSP FARKES Reformasi began its Solidarity Camp today in Bogor. Workers from affiliated unions, along with those from non-unionised hospitals, shared their experiences of workplace challenges and organising efforts. Unionists from SMSU Malaysia are also participating in the exchange. The camp aims to strengthen organising work in Indonesia and facilitate learning and collaboration between unions across countries. @fsp_farkes #UnionSolidarity

The launch event was attended by comrades from @apheda, @unionsaustralia, @PNG Nurses Association, & Energy Workers Association. The website will strengthen union power through digital organising and member engagement. It will enable PEA to connect with workers in new ways and make it easier for public servants across Papua New Guinea to join the union online and be part of the global fightback for quality public services. We also congratulate the leadership of General Secretary Ugwalubu Mowana for making this possible. 🌐 Visit the new website: peapng.org

𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐅𝐢𝐣𝐢 ✊🏽🇫🇯 In early April, union leaders, organisers, and workers in Fiji came together in Suva for a National Organising Workshop under the regional programme “Building Union Power for Quality Public Services.” Facilitated by Frank Jackson of the New Zealand Public Service Association (NZPSA), the workshop strengthened practical organising skills and reinforced a shared commitment to grow union power across Fiji. Participants reaffirmed the need to intensify organising efforts, advocate for the recognition and value of public service workers, and push for greater government investment in quality public services. A key priority that emerged from the discussions was expanding organising to workers in Fiji’s outer islands, ensuring that union power reaches workers beyond the main urban centres. Similar trainings are planned in Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands, building a stronger regional movement for quality public services. This programme is coordinated by PSI and @eduint with support from @unionaidabroad #Fiji #UnionPower #TradeUnions #Organising #WorkersRights #PacificUnions

𝐍𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐥 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 The PSI affiliates, occupational federations, and key national centres in Nepal, particularly NTUC, GEFONT, and ANTUF, have come together and resolved to fight the anti-trade union reform agenda proposed by the Nepal government. At a national consultation meeting held on 12 April 2026 in Kathmandu, the leaders appreciated the international solidarity expressed by GUFs, such as PSI, from the Asia Pacific region and seriously discussed the gaps, current challenges, and key priority actions to be taken forward for the protection of the trade union movement in Nepal. The meeting also acknowledged the historic contribution made by trade unions in every political change in Nepal and stressed the need for unity and joint action on all fronts, ranging from grassroots organising and media/narrative battles to legal and policy struggles. Leaders committed to intensifying organising campaigns within their own structures and to actively engaging in trade union networks, joint lobbying and advocacy initiatives, as well as the preparation of joint events and campaigns such as May Day celebrations. The meeting was largely successful in creating a shared understanding among different trade unions, with a strong commitment to work together on joint campaigns for visible change in the world of work in Nepal. #Nepal #TradeUnions #WorkersRights #MayDay #UnionPower #Solidarity

✊ 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲: 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐂𝐇𝐖𝐬 𝐖𝐢𝐧 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 🇵🇭 In a historic first, Barangay Health Workers in the Philippines have won official government registration of their union — Maka-BHW Pilipinas. This is a major organising breakthrough that establishes their legitimacy and strengthens their power to engage governments at all levels. This is more than a legal victory. It is recognition that community health work is work — and that CHWs deserve rights, voice, dignity, and collective bargaining power like all workers. For decades, CHWs have been the backbone of primary healthcare, serving remote and underserved communities with little pay, no social protection, and almost no recognition. Now, through collective organising, they have a union that can fight for better wages, legal recognition, social security, and the Magna Carta for Barangay Health Workers. "It is completely unacceptable that Nepal Government is denying workers one of their most fundamental democratic rights—the right to form and join trade unions. Public service workers in Nepal, such as community health workers and sanitation workers, have won important gains through collective organising. To ban unions now would not only violate international law and Nepal’s own Constitution, it would risk nullifying years of hard-won progress. We must not give up on the gains workers have made through unionising,” said Kate Lappin, Regional Secretary, PSI Asia Pacific.

𝐏𝐒𝐈 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐆𝐔𝐅𝐬 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧 𝐀𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐍𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐥🇳🇵 PSI, along with Global Union Federations (GUFs), representing workers across various sectors, have issued a joint statement expressing grave concern over the Nepal government’s proposal to ban selected trade unions, especially those representing public services workers. The statement warns that such a move would directly violate Nepal’s Constitution, breach its obligations under ILO Convention 98, and undermine the democratic right of workers to organise and bargain collectively. UNION VICTORY ✊🏽 The nurses’ union in Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬 forced the government to honour last year’s agreement on the Nurses Industrial Award (2025–2027) after announcing sit-in protests from 1 April. Faced with the real possibility of nationwide service disruption, the government was pushed to act—issuing a clear implementation timeline and committing to start processing due payments immediately. This breakthrough was made possible by PNGNA’s strategic escalation, credible threat of industrial action, and strong solidarity from unions across the region - PSI, PNGPEA and @anmf_sa. It is a powerful reminder that collective solidarity and organised worker pressure can turn delayed promises into action.
