@cb_doge When will there be a free or cost effective API for using Grokipedia as a source of knowledge for AI agents/chatbots? I think it would be quite useful.

I’m gay and single and generally not interested in raising children so maybe my opinion doesn’t matter… BUT if I did hypothetically have kids and was choosing an educational path for them… it wouldn’t be public school. Ideally a small private school that still provided a quality education based on facts and common sense, or home schooled. Don’t get me wrong… most public school teachers are awesome people simply stuck in a box that’s being squished by rot from the top down, but despite an insane spending per child per day if you research the numbers, the things they’re being taught and how they’re teaching them is insane. Teach STEM. Teach financial literacy. Teach accountability. Use modern technology and American AI from providers that have our next generations success in mind. The world is changing quickly. Empower our children to be thinkers. If a few of them turn out gay, that’s fine, it’s statistically normal. But don’t encourage them to be something they’re not just because it’s trendy. And don’t lower the standards so everyone passes. If someone is not doing well in a class, figure out why. Is there a problem with the teaching method? Do they simply not understand the topic and need some additional support? Is something wrong at home? Sorry for the long reply… but I hope someone gets something out of it.

I am pulling my 8- and 11-yo daughters out of school to homeschool next month. I am doing this because I see such a low level of education everywhere, even among university-educated people. I feel it is my responsibility to help guide them better than that. I would not be able to forgive myself if they ended up living out bad ideas from school or popular culture. They are my children, and as a father, I have a responsibility to do the best I can so that they have good outcomes. We're going to be heavy in classics, history, math, engineering, philosophy. And about what a good life is, and isn't. I'll have them do projects trying to defend as best as they can ridiculous ideas -- flat earth, geocentrism, etc. -- and try to understand why other people might believe them. I think understanding wrong ideas actually helps people to better understand right ones, and also helps people understand where other people are coming from, and what their motivations are. Even apart from the clearly outrageous ideas, I also think they should deeply understand the seductive, popular ideas that are out there that are wrong, so that they don't fall into those traps. Hopefully, I'll be able to teach them out to parse and digest complex arguments and come up with their own judgments about what makes sense and doesn't -- but only after they have really understood first. Personally, if I could do things over again, I wouldn't have gone to college. So, more than anything, I want them to have the tools to do anything they want, and for college to be optional because they will already be advanced when it is time to make that decision. This will likely be pretty challenging, and I obviously have pretty high hopes. I am optimistic by nature. So we will see how it goes.

@JerryBeller1 @jun_song Really this depends on your definition of significant, no? I mean, production applications/products/services/projects doing real world things reliably is significant - but in the grand scheme of things probably each one is insignificant?

Like I ask with Claude and Codex, what significant has anybody built with Grok 4.5 for it to deserve the hype? Whether open soure or closed, these models aren't anywhere near what they make them out to be. Also, keep in mind that $300 is a starting point. If they would all just try to own a lane or two rather than try to present themselves as God's gift to everything. We all forget in the end, they are all just processing human data very fast.

Grok 4.5 performance is good enough that there’s really nothing to complain about, but the usage limit for a $300 subscription feels way too low. Other companies offer about 50x more compared to API rates.

@claudeai Well both Fable 5 and Opus 5 fell back to Opus 4.8 just doing basic development tests on an open source app that lives only on my computer. Meanwhile Cursor is happy to do its job. Rather frustrating.

@Hridaisme From my understanding they simply do not have the energy capacity to build AI datacenters and they also have insane regulations for businesses that make it difficult to innovate. Decades of poor decisions from lawmakers will do that…
