@dhh A lot of this stuff is laziness as well. I worked at a school where this stuff was going on, where someone toutes, is this up to GDPR code, and because they don't wanna risk it/figure it out, they just claim it isn't allowed and call it a day.

If building software is a commodity now, than how to stand out?

@NXT4EU Who is stopping us then? Weren't we free to invest in ourselves for the past 100 years? What happend? Why did we go from the most wealthy continent to what is left now? And why and how are we going to different now? Did our leadership change? Our mentality?

i hope it's clear now why open source models are important i've said before i can respect the position around safety but it's completely naive even if you think you have superior morality and should control it someone will kick you out and take control

@MadelonVos__ We zien ook constant alle platformen gehackt worden, ook van de overheden. Het feit dat we steeds meer moeten opslaan en steeds meer ook echt, traceerbare identiteiten overal aan moeten toevoegen maar het internet per definitie onveiliger.

Ik snap de reflex volledig. Kinderen worden te blootgesteld aan algoritmes, dopamineprikkels, vergelijking, verslaving en volwassen ellende. Maar de oplossing ‘verplicht ID uploaden voor iedereen’ is wéér zo’n typische systeemoplossing: men zegt kinderen te willen beschermen, maar we eindigen met digitale identificatie voor de gehele bevolking. Hier schuilt een enorm gevaar, want wie beheert die data? Wie bepaalt hoe die data gebruikt mag worden? En wat gebeurt er als die infrastructuur later anders wordt gebruikt?! Denk aan digital ID etc. Je kan dit echt anders oplossen: door platformen aansprakelijker te maken, algoritmes richting kinderen beperken, verslavend ontwerp verbieden, ouders meer tools te geven, scholen kids laten opvoeden in digitale weerbaarheid met - als het echt nodig blijkt - leeftijdsgrenzen, maar zónder dat íedereen zijn paspoort bij Big Tech hoeft in te leveren.

This is not what it's about. It's about privacy in general. It's a drastic measure for something that could be fixed in a number of ways. On top of this, the changes they require in encryption will make all devices and the internet per definition way less secure. Meanwhile, younger people will find different platforms, ways around barricades, so even there it won't be "fixed". And again it's one of these measures where we look more and more towards the government to regulate us, to decide more and more what we can and cannot do, for a problem that should be fixed somewhere else. As a society we are failing these children, by everyone older then 16 also being phone addicts, by collapsing the economy, by not providing anything to do in real life, by destroying a couple of years of their growing up while in lockdown, by demanding more and more of them, scrutinizing them at every move.

It baffles me that so many people appear invested in keeping children ON devices, and using social media. Why? Genuinely. 🤷‍♀️ Do we really think the benefits outweigh the harms?
