Also back in Pittsburgh this weekend was @KentStSoftball commit @mack_2026 In-season hitting training should prioritize maintenance and refinement rather than major overhauls, as players are in games and need to stay fresh, avoid fatigue, and focus on consistency. Two key areas- Direction and connection are especially valuable during the season because they directly improve plate coverage, contact quality, adjustability to pitch location/timing, and line-drive production without requiring heavy volume or high-intensity work. Direction refers to keeping the barrel on (or slightly uphill through) the pitch plane for as long as possible from early in the zone to extension. This creates a longer, flatter path in the hitting zone, giving more margin for error on timing and improving ability to hit to all fields (especially middle/opposite). Poor direction often shows as "cutting" the zone (steep downswing or pulling everything), leading to weak contact or misses. Better direction helps when timing is off (common mid-season due to fatigue or varying pitchers), as it "saves" swings by allowing adjustments without casting or lunging. Connection means keeping the arms/hands compact and "connected" to the rotating torso—back elbow stays close to the body (no early separation/casting), front arm stays nearer the chest through contact, and the upper body works following the legs one m. This creates a short, direct path to the ball with better barrel control and power transfer.

After catching a @Pitt_SB game- it was go time in the PVS Lab Both girls have been to PVS multiple times in the last few years and train with us remotely.
