@alexthechick I would agree with you. and the administration is the fastest growing portion with ever growing budgets, so there is that much more opportunity to mess things up.

I know a lot of teachers, both private religious school teachers and public school teachers. As in any group, there are the just going through the motions ones and the absolute best of the best ones.
The over whelming majority of the teachers I know care that their students learn. They can be a bit much on the We Are Ever So Important side, true. They do care though.
Whenever I see the stories about schools were no child is at grade level in math or reading, I think about the teachers and wonder why none of them are humiliated by that. Do they not care? Every single teacher in those schools cannot be incompetent.
Then I see things like this where the administration gets in the way or videos where the teachers explain how, if the parents even care, the parents refuse to back the teachers up on discipline.
Is the problem in some of those schools the teachers? Sure. I do, however, think the larger problem lies with the administrative layer that just wants the teachers to shut up and go along.

Teacher receives zero work from a student. Gives the student a 0. Admin: ‘Nope — give them a 50.’ This is real. And it’s happening in schools right now. No effort = half credit. We were told to give them a 50 because we don’t want the student feeling defeated. 🤬 I refused to give the a 50 for a zero effort….absolutely refused! I was called into the office where I was confronted by the Principal, Superintendent and a couple of other board members. They wanted to understand why I refused to follow the 50 for 0 policy. I quickly told them I became a teacher to educate children. It’s my job to teach and evaluate what my students learn, not to pass them on without making sure they have a solid foundation. The Superintendent then said that a 50 is still a failing grade, and I said “yes sir, and when a paper earns a 50 failing grade that is what they will receive, but if a paper earns a 0 then that is the grade they will receive”. How exactly does giving students half credit for no effort prepare kids for reality?
