@jemmm85517813 How would you solve the problem of air pollution. It costs the UK £40-50Bn a year in health related impacts. Most of it is from fossil fuels. No-one is immune. That includes you.

If people realised that Britain only produces 0.00001% of the CO2 in the atmosphere & that anyway it is plant food.. would they still be calling for netzero?

All the bleating from the right wing idiots about the North Sea is stupid, ignorant and/or dishonest. There is precious little to extract and what there is will be sold at international prices. For energy, you need renewables. eciu.net/media/press-re…

This is the most shameful thing about the liars who claim onshore shale won’t work in Britain, or that the North Sea basin has been utterly depleted. If they truly believed what they said they would have not banned fracking or North Sea exploration. They wouldn’t have needed to. Either they are thick as mince or they are knowingly lying to you.
Despotic Inroad@DespoticInroad

The BoE will inevitably respond to an inflationary supply shock by raising interest %. Engineering a recession, making people poorer to quash demand will have ~0/negative effect on the fundamental cause of the problem – UK dependence on volatile international energy markets. Instead, BoE should halt QT, easing pressure on government borrowing costs + facilitate new bond issuance for GB Energy/NWF, focusing on a breakneck move towards UK energy independence/ abundance/ resilience through public-private investment in: 👉new N. Sea O&G extraction (the "there's none left" crowd should back themselves & lift the ban on new licenses if they actually believe their own claims – see @EdConwaySky's excellent vid.) 👉British nuclear/SMR rollout 👉British renewable tech supply chains/grid upgrades 👉Onshore shale gas exploration No Truss-style £150BN bills subsidy. Instead, a £150BN investment in the next half century of homemade energy production.

You know there’s a cost of living crisis, right? And that the world is teetering on the verge of all out war???? Get people like Nadia removed at the next election. Whilst no one should be blatantly racist, telling people they can’t raise points that worry them/they find important, is verging on becoming the Stasi. At no point in history have the people who want to stamp out free speech been the good guys!

Within just 48 hours of the Tories refusing to sack Nick Timothy for his Islamophobic comments, the far-right is circulating a list of MPs “of foreign descent” trying to “silence” him. This is what happens when racism is normalised from the top: democratically elected representatives being told that we shouldn't be allowed to make decisions here at all, and even that we should leave the country. It’s a racist attack on our very democracy. Will Nick and his party condemn it?

Not a study, not a survey - but the actual live data from every @OctopusEnergy Cosy heat pump installed in real homes is now online. And it shows that over 80% of Cosy heat pumps were cheaper to run than a gas boiler over the last year and delivered a COP of 3.7 over the whole year (about 4.3x more efficient than a gas boiler) There’s so much disinformation from fossil fuel lobbyists on heat pumps - and anecdote based on bad installs or out of date tech - but we hear time and time again how much Octopus customer la love their heat pumps. Cosy heat pumps can run as hot as a boiler (70C+), can often be installed with no radiator changes and no new insulation, work with microbore piping, can often retain your old hot water tank if you have one. But so much more - comfort sensors in up to ten rooms, optional remote support and servicing, software updates to literally make your heating better without a visit. Effortlessly working with smart tariffs to save money. British designed, British manufactured and thousands of great British jobs. Helping insulate Brits from the last gas crisis, this gas crisis and more to come. See the data for yourself: octopus.energy/cosy-heat-pump…

Ok Robin. Real world. I know 2 people who ripped out their heating systems and installed heat pumps. Froze for 2 winters. ELECTRICITY BILL THROUGH THE FUCKING ROOF. And then reinstalled oil central heating, at phenomenal cost. Have a super weekend. But stop peddling horseshit about how well these things work.

Random Internet person: "But this one unsubstantiated datapoint about a single heat pump that 'someone I know' / my plumber mate / [insert random third-party here] says they're shit" How about real, near-realtime data from every single one of the many thousands of real Cosy heat pumps already installed by Octopus Energy in real homes? That's a really big dose of real. That's what we've done with the Cosy Heat Pump Fleet Performance Dashboard, released today. Let's talk about what the data says right now, not some hypothetical argument about what it might say tomorrow. Why hide behind marketing speak and hypotheticals when we can show you what the real data says about real heat pump installations in real homes? There aren't many energy suppliers out there who will go out of their way to put data like this out for the public to see. And when the request for this transparency comes right from the top, you know you're in the right place. It's a reminder of why I've spent the last 4+ years at Octopus. We did this around direct debit transparency with Balance Forecast, one of the first projects I worked on when I joined Octopus all those years ago. And we're still doing it today with this heat pump dashboard. It's been a pleasure working on this project and helping with the visualisations to help break down the frankly insane amount of raw data into insights around fleet-wide efficiency over time and how performance changes with the temperature. It also tops the list as the dashboard with the longest name that I've ever worked on…

Anyone denying accelerated global warming should start by explaining how +2 W/m² of increased Absorbed Solar Radiation (from decreased Earth reflectivity) doesn't lead to much faster warming. I just had to extend my y-axis again, with a new month of NASA CERES satellite data:

I reckon you’re a really nice person, Jill. Caring. Compassionate. But you get your information from one source. Read the real Anthony Fauci, and Vaccines Amen. And check the referencing, it’s rather solid. I think you’d probably question more of what seems to find its way into “medical literature” and “academic papers”.

Good to see. Flu & #COVID-19 vaccine have been recommended to protect pregnant mum only, & Tdap & RSV [respiratory syncytial virus] were given to mum to protect the baby after it was born. Now, we know mum is also protecting her baby against covid in 1st 6m of life by getting the COVID vaccine.

@ret_ward Ok Bob. At its peak “XX” wind farm/solar PV site/hydro scheme would only produce less than 1% of UK energy demand, let’s not build it. A cable from “somewhere else can bring it to us….

At its peak, Rosebank would be producing each day the equivalent of less than 2% of current U.K. North Sea daily production of natural gas. It would not make any difference to consumer bills.

Turns out fossil gas (aka "natural" gas) is extremely intermittent and unreliable, and batteries cannot help firm it. The sun rises and the wind blows every day. Free of charge. bloomberg.com/news/features/…

The U.K doesn’t have the refining capacity for more than 20% of existing North Sea oil extraction, let alone even more. New extraction will not change prices, but it will substantially increase the emissions driving us towards climate collapse.

Yip. You’ve smashed it. I love the new battery powered tanks, fighter jets, war ships, personnel carriers, landing ships, chinooks, and I really like the rechargeable laser rifles. All made with windmills, which are completely impossible to destroy. Can’t be blown up, the cables can’t be targeted either.

The largest gas field in the world has been bombed. The South Pars gas field in Iran is completely ablaze, proving that a reliance on fossil fuel is unstable. The only way the UK achieves energy security is through renewables.
