@quietcircus @toughtalkty It was an uprising when gay and queer people, trans women, drag queens, lesbians, & ppl of color fought back. Why care? It launched the modern 🏳️‍🌈 rights movement, gave us pride, advocacy, & visibility, & showed marginalized communities can resist oppression and change the 🌎

@wicked_billie @toughtalkty Sex between men was already decriminalised in England and Wales 2 years earlier, after a 10 year campaign. Gay Liberation, the movement that chose Stonewall as its origin myth, was a revolutionary Communist enterprise that proposed abolishing the nuclear family. History matters

@toughtalkty I'm not at all sure that self-respecting homosexual and bisexual people shouldn't be doing the same with the gay "community" tbh

@toughtalkty ‘Cut the cord’? Buddy, trans people were fighting cops at Stonewall while cowards like you would’ve been hiding. Every right gay people have came from coalition. Throwing trans people under the bus doesn’t make you respectable — it makes you useful to bigots.

@toughtalkty Back in the 80s when we were fighting for gay rights, transgender people were there with us. If it wasn’t, in part, for trans people you wouldn’t have the freedoms you have today.

@harryr33 @sharrond62 The issue is not "trans" people, it's the much larger number of "allies" who have jumped on the issue as a way of rejecting reason, responsibility and social bonds (and as a way of advancing their careers by eliminating rivals). The parents of "trans kids" are in a desperate hole

Free association is a core freedom. The issue is not that ppl wish to live as trans but that it matters to them that non trans acknowledge them as the claimed gender, so parallel lives is the opposite of what they want. I suspect that for many this imposition is what really matters not the belief they are not of their gender.

@bookfae_ @emhoneyreads When you read your eyes are constantly scanning the words and lines ahead of your place in the text, it's not the same as having each word presented in linear order. Reading is different than being read to.

@emhoneyreads purrr ur right everyone else is wrong, if you are still consuming the same exact content listening than using ur eyes, its still reading.. like are ppl going to argue to a blind person that they have never read a book because they didn’t physically see it with their eyes??

@JustMisogyny It's a long story, this is just the bit I was involved in, and it's complicated. Even back in the late 1980s "we're here we're queer we're not going shopping" was a chant everyone could get behind. Slur or not, that rhyme is too damn useful

@danascullyshair letting people think that there is certainty about something, when you know there isn't, is falsification not simplification

Of the many appalling effects of psychiatry’s promotion of SSRIs in the 1990s* tied to chemical imbalance shitbollocks, a less obvious one is this… Psychiatry taught the public not only that a deficiency of serotonin causes their depression but also a broader fallacy: -That a chemical, like a prescription drug you put in your body, somehow, miraculously, affects one chemical and one chemical only. -That our bodies function through simple “too much/too little” binaries of chemicals. -That the things we put in our bodies (whether a prescription drug or even a nutrient from food) work in isolation and aren’t part of some complex, interdependent web of biological, psychological, and environmental interactions that’s fiendishly difficult to fully decipher. To date, psychiatry has done nothing to correct this. All it’s done is defensive spin, including complaining about the appearance of a female psychiatrist who did a paper exposing this bullshit. And of all of this smacks of a field that thinks and treats patients like they’re stupid. But they’re not. It makes no difference whether they’re patients reporting symptoms of depression or appendicitis. Patients aren’t stupid. If you, psychiatry, can’t explain complex things in clear language without resorting to oversimplified, sugar-coated half-truths driven by pharmaceutical company motives, that’s a you problem, not a patient problem. And if you, psychiatry, can’t say “we don’t know” when patients ask about the cause or how something works, that’s a you problem, not a patient problem. With all this—an oversimplification by psychiatry’s own admission (see below)—psychiatry never actually did “mental health awareness,” nor any kind of “health awareness.” It did “SSRI awareness” and “psychiatry awareness.” And it’s still very much doing the latter. *As an example, I’m thinking of the Royal College of Liechiatrists’ “Defeat Depression” campaign in the UK, which was as much about getting GPs to prescribe SSRIs as it was about getting the public to take them. Here’s what the organisation said most recently about the chemical imbalance theory, buried in a thread on here:

@rustynew386 the only significance that Stonewall has is that the anniversary was chosen as the date of the first P.R.I.D.E. event, which in its turn marked the beginning of Gay Liberation, which is not at all the same thing as rights for the same-sex attracted

Luxury is absolutely done in the West, it literally does not exist anymore It doesn't matter if you pay $100 or $10,000, there's no tiers of service quality anymore, not in hotels, airlines, restaurants, product quality, it's all the same level of enshittification where nobody gives a fuck about their work anymore Luxury still exists once you go to Asia though, you still get excellent service at both $100 or $10,000 levels from Thailand to China to Japan And in the Gulf states like Qatar and Dubai

Luxury is done. The quality of almost everything has gone down. No one is getting what they pay for, not even in first class.
