Alcohol pricing is not just about revenue. It is also about public health, road safety, family well-being, and responsible regulation. The proposed Karnataka State Excise Reforms 2026 aim to create a more balanced system — where alcohol pricing is more consistent, revenue remains stable, and monitoring becomes stronger through better tracking, simpler licensing, and improved regulation. Now, we want to hear from you. What should be the priority — revenue, public health, or both? Does this reform strike the right balance? Share your feedback before 22nd May. Submit your response here: civis.vote/consultations/… You can also share your feedback through WhatsApp, including voice notes in any language, by sending “karnatakaexcise” to +91 8976926914: wa.link/uv7q49

#WATCH | Delhi | Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan says, "The new dates of the re-examination have been declared for June 21st... The exam took place on 3rd May and on 7th May, NTA received a complaint that the guess paper had some questions that were present in the Question sheets this time. The Higher Education Department initiated an immediate inquiry and handed it over to the government agency... They contacted the state agencies and by May 12th, we were confirmed that, under the guise of a guess paper, the actual examination questions had indeed been leaked..." He also says, "We did not want any deserving student to be deprived of their rights due to the machinations of fraudulent candidates or the conspiracies of the education mafia... After the irregularities that surfaced last time, the Radhakrishnan Committee had been constituted, and we implemented its recommendations word for word for both 2025 and 2026. Despite that, this incident occurred. Hence, our first decision was to cancel the examination..."

Tamil Nadu Minister Aadhav Arjuna tweets, "At today's swearing-in ceremony for the Chief Minister and ministers, presided over by Tamil Nadu Governor Mr Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, first Vande Mataram was played, then the national anthem, and thirdly the Tamil invocation song. This new practice is inappropriate for Tamil Nadu. We do not agree with the Tamil invocation song being played third. When we pressed the Governor's side on this matter, it was conveyed that the Governor, as the responsible authority, must act according to the new circular from the Union government. Accordingly, in an unavoidable situation, the Tamil invocation song was played as the third song. However, in future times, this new practice will not be followed. Instead, as per the earlier practice, the Tamil invocation song will be played at the beginning of the event, and the national anthem at the end..."

Operation Sindoor stands as a defining testament to India’s unwavering resolve against terrorism and all forces that threaten our sovereignty and the safety of our citizens. The extraordinary success of this Mission reflects the unmatched courage and determination of our Armed Forces. The brutal attack at Pahalgam was met with befitting and exemplary precision. Those who seek to threaten Bharat must know that our nation stands vigilant, united, and prepared to respond with strength. Today, the nation salutes the indomitable bravery, sacrifice and professionalism of our soldiers.

Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlekar turned down TVK chief Vijay’s proposal to form the government for the second consecutive day. Vijay met the Governor again today at Raj Bhavan to stake claim to form the government, but the Governor asked him to return only after securing the support of 118 MLAs, sources said. According to sources, the Governor told Vijay that TVK still fell short of the required numbers and asked him to come back with signatures of 118 MLAs before any swearing-in process could take place. VIDEO | Chennai: VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan (@thirumaofficial) says, “The Governor has no right to ask Vijay to prove his numbers or absolute majority of 118 before inviting him to form the government. He should first assume charge as Chief Minister, as it is the people’s mandate. After that, it becomes his responsibility to prove the majority on the floor of the Assembly. I request the Governor to invite TVK president Joseph Vijay to form the government, as it is both the people’s mandate and his constitutional right. Vijay has also requested the VCK and Left parties to extend their support in forming a secular government. Based on his request, we will discuss the merits and demerits of extending support and then decide whether to support him or not. But in my opinion, since it is the people’s mandate, he should take charge of the government.” (Full video available on PTI Videos - ptivideos.com)

Data point: the BJP and its allies are now in power in 21 states from Rann of Kutch to Bay of Bengal and the North East with only Jharkhand an exception if a straight line is drawn from west to east. This is an era of Hindutva ‘dominance’. The Congress has only southern comfort (Himachal an exception) while regional parties are now on notice. What does it mean for the national picture after another dramatic election counting day? 9 pm tonight on @IndiaToday
