Consider Cucumber. It is a generic tool that translates GIVEN/WHEN/THEN statements (among others) into code that calls a set of test fixtures written by the programmers. Those fixtures do the hard work of translating the data in the GWT statements and calling into the guts of the system being tested. What I have created with CLAUDE is a Parser/Generator pair that understands both a very specific GWT syntax, that is tuned to the application, and that generates test code that is fully aware of the internals of the system. So it is a strange hybrid of Cucumber and the test fixtures. It took me about 8 hours to get this working, most of which was waiting for CLAUDE. It turns out that CLAUDE struggled quite a bit, and spent a LOT of time and tokens working out the intersection between the simple GWT parsing and the much more complex system internals. To get that intersection right required some minor modifications to the syntax of the GWT statements, and some rather more complicated changes to the internal flow of the application. Those changes did not affect observable system behavior, but were necessary to reorder certain events and processes to adapt them to the coarse granularity of the GWT statements. Had I started this project, six weeks ago, using GWT statements as the driver of behavior, the process would have been much smoother, and the pain of the last week and a half could have been avoided. Lesson learned. And it's an old lesson indeed. The newer things are, the more relevant the old rules become.

We are using git, dammit, GIT! And you horseheaded nitwit did not commit some files you changed? And then you did a git clean and blew them all to smithereens! What a fly-brain!

@unclebobmartin Many models respond well to being told to apply full "Uncle Bob". You can spell it out as Clean Architecture if you need to, but you may not have to go further than that. If you want to get that into you claude md or whatever the model can do that based simply on "Uncle Bob"

OK, I think I've got the majority of the old VMS rules running. This is leaps and bounds better than the days and days I've spend trying to get Claude to do something reasonable. I gave it someone else's code.

the author of git ai put together a spec for annotating commits with information about what code is ai generated need to review deeper but opencode will probably implement this we can't have this kind of functionality only exist in proprietary products like cursor blame

I have been saying that we'll need to come up with a formalism for specifying prompts. I don't think this is true. The ambiguity of native language gets resolved in the _conversation_ between the human and the AI.

@SBarrettBar @NixN1xx @Thisand06739075 “dwelling” means any structure or part of a structure occupied as a person's home or other living accommodation... but does not include any part not so occupied... So hotel *room* perhaps, but not hotel?

2 points: 1. It only applies to "the person to whom it is given to do all such things as the constable giving it may specify" - not those it wasn't given to 2. It's unlawful if (and I don't know) there was "a more senior-ranking police officer at the scene" 🧐

Breaking: Police have now allegedly banned protestors from demonstrating outside the Britannia hotel for 28 days. The police have reportedly enacted Section 42A of the Criminal Justice and Police Act, claiming the protests are causing “distress” to the residents of the hotel.

@mkristensen Suggestion: Instead of searching only the repo root for the .github folder, it could traverse up the tree from the current file and use all found folders. Multiple projects of different types and languages could then have scoped prompts for each.

We just had a phone call with @POTUS while in Albania. Once again, President Putin refuses to respond to the unconditional ceasefire proposal put forward by the Americans and supported by Ukraine and the Europeans. By rejecting the ceasefire and dialogue with Ukraine, Russia shows it does not want peace and is merely trying to buy time by continuing the war. In this context, as the European Political Community gathers for a summit in Tirana, we will continue to coordinate with our European partners, the United States, and the Coalition of the willing to define a united response.

“You can’t stop climate change” @TiceRichard - Deputy Leader of @reformparty_uk - tells me on Political Thinking. He’s not just arguing net zero is unaffordable & pointless given huge emissions elsewhere. He’s denying the scientific consensus that climate change is partly man made & can be slowed or halted. Interesting
