one camera, one take... youtube.com/watch?v=YwrIXw… whitney houston's performance of our national anthem is peerless. she hits that thing with an ease, and a joy and a mastery that changes the cells in your body. i think about it a lot in contrast to how she was treated by american culture at large during the struggles in her life. it's heartbreaking, and a pattern we are, by now, very used to. "whitney houston's national anthem" is one of my favorite songs i've ever been a part of... magnified by the fact that my actual, real life musical heroes - The Indigo Girls - sang the 2nd and 3rd verses (and harmonized with me!) on the album version. and i'm no expert, but it's safe to say san francisco has the best looking ballpark in baseball. Check out this time lapse of the Pillar Point Harbor in Half Moon Bay. Notice the abrupt up and down motion of the boats. A tsunami is not just one wave. It's a packet of waves that can last for several hours. This rapid surging of water can create dangerous currents.

On August 26th, WCBS 880 in NYC went off the air permanently.
Exactly three months later, on November 26th, I walked into the @KCBSRadio newsroom in San Francisco for the first time and met my new radio family. They are some of the nicest and most talented people I’ve ever been around.
Today is January 26th. I’ve been at KCBS for two months. I’m incredibly thankful for the opportunity.

This wave at Mavericks was captured by photographer Frank Quirarte and may have been a world record breaker. A surfer from Santa Cruz, Alo Slebir, caught it on Dec 23. Some say it was 100-feet, smashing the previous record set at Nazare.
