Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said in an interview with Dawan Africa that former President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo never once invited them for consultations or sought their views during his nearly five years in office. As a result, he said, they were forced to express their opinions and concerns publicly while in opposition. Mohamud stressed that he adopted a different approach after taking office in 2022. He noted that in 2023, he organized a comprehensive consultative meeting that brought together former presidents, former prime ministers, and other political figures. According to Mohamud, the three-day meeting focused on the government's achievements and future objectives. He said participants were openly briefed on plans regarding debt relief, the lifting of the arms embargo, Somalia’s ambition to secure a seat on the UN Security Council, the constitutional review process, and the transition to a “one person, one vote” electoral system.
