Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar @aBayraktar1 met with Somali Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Dahir Shire Mohamed @DahaShire during the Istanbul Natural Resources Summit. The two sides discussed the ongoing offshore drilling operations carried out by the Turkish vessel Çağrı Bey off the coast of Somalia, reviewing the current progress and future implementation plans. Bayraktar emphasized the importance of deepening Türkiye-Somalia cooperation in the energy sector through new investment opportunities and joint projects, including mining.

I met with @SwedishPM Kristersson after the NATO Foreign Ministers Meeting. We agreed on the importance of strengthening transatlantic defense cooperation. Pleased to have signed the U.S.-Sweden Technology Prosperity Deal with @MariaStenergard.

SECRETARY RUBIO: Sweden was an incredible addition to NATO. It made the alliance much stronger. Sweden has a mature defense industrial base that it now brought into NATO, so the ability to work on aircraft together is extraordinary. 💪

We also visited Haji Ali’s historic school, where the President of Djibouti, Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, along with thousands of other students, have graduated since its founding in 1947. The school reflects a long tradition in which Somali Islamic scholars emphasized knowledge and religious teaching beyond clan affiliations, as Haji Ali himself belonged to the Lisan sub-clan of the Mirifle clan family. During the visit, we were guided by Sheikh Mohamed Moallim, the director of the orphanage school and institution. We also saw an impressive and well-organized school environment that is largely self-sufficient, including the cultivation of agricultural products to support its students and operations.

Under the cover of darkness last night, elite Somali National Army special forces launched a carefully planned operation in Nuur Dugle, targeting a checkpoint controlled by Al-Shabaab militants. Residents say the town was quiet and asleep when the operation began. On the sidelines of the “Istanbul Natural Resources Summit” @inres2026 in Istanbul, I had the pleasure of meeting with H.E. Parviz Shahbazov @ParvizShahbazov , Minister of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Our discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the oil and gas sectors, reviewing the implementation of existing understandings between our two countries, and exploring the establishment of a Joint Working Group to advance technical collaboration and future partnership opportunities in the energy sector.

The United States of America play a decisive role for cooperation within NATO. Proud to welcome US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to Helsingborg. Sweden and the United States have excellent relations, not least on defence and new technologies. Our discussions today also focused on the need for increased pressure on Russia to reach a lasting end to its war of aggression against Ukraine.
