Too many people are book report PMs and diorama founders, focused on getting an A+ on form and hoping the function will follow. A doc is not a business. A prototype is not a business. A website is not a business. A video is not a business. There’s a lot of dopamine and ego in making beautiful artifacts. You get rewarded with lil pats on the back, maybe a promotion, funding, some likes. But eventually, you’ll realize it’s not enough. The economics of optics don’t scale past a certain point (though you’d be shocked at how far one can let it ride.) And then you’re stuck with the only questions that matter: - Is it useful - Is it used - is it valuable - can I build it - can I sell it - for enough I’m excited about AI because it short circuits the value creation machine. All the excuses one could make for the time and effort put into optics start to fall away, and you get right to the thing: is it useful, can you sell it? For enough? It will take some time for the reward systems to catch up. But I’d bet they will. So build real things that matter.

The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar Short (39 min) narrative style storytelling on Netflix is an excellent story by Roald Dahl on the power of stillness, focus and philanthropy. With the myriad of information flowing all around us it is critical to take a step back and find time everyday to take a pause, stay still and deliberately focus 🧘

@shreyas This is such a crucial point. Share the credit and take the blame is one of the key criteria of a great leader.

Because PMs are often presenting at exec reviews & all-hands, it is quite common for prod mgmt to receive disproportionate credit for work done by other functions. PM leaders must proactively combat this tendency because it kills morale, credibility & hampers future collaboration
