Local dynamics (BJP Ayodhya candidate was a non-performer as per every feedback), Self-Interests, and Roti-Kapda-Makaan will trump religious interest(s) any day. Modi knew this and that's why he had a laser sharp focus on socialist schemes and direct benefit transfer. Lesson from UP is absolutely clear - - BJP cannot always seek votes in the name of Modi ji. The performance and perception about local candidate matters. - Caste arithmetic is here to stay. - Get the messaging right. - Get the candidate right. - And coopt all the groups possible.
