Dear @BDUTT ., in 2006 INC extended unconditional support to DMK’s minority govt without any ministerial berths. In 2016, when all other (today’s ) alliance parties DMDK, VCK, CPI CPM and MDMK deserted Karunanidhi and started its own alliance., it’s only Congress stood by DMK and endorsed Karunanidhi as CM candidate.
History is important.

The DMK first endorsed Rahul Gandhi for PM contender ; the Congress seems very willing to dump the DMK for Vijay and gets dubbed as “backstabbers”. One more divorce in the sometimes on, sometimes off marriage called India Alliance ! Unless AIADMK gets to Vijay first!

When the entire Madurai DMK is losing to TVK, Congress won its own in Melur. Mayiladuthurai a traditional Congress seat and Not to mention Kanyakumari is always for Congress where you also gain from us. So stop these stereotypes Saravanan.

TVK President Thiru Vijay has requested the Indian National Congress for support to form a Government in Tamil Nadu. He has spoken about drawing inspiration from Perumthalaivar Kamaraj as well, in his political mission.
The INC is clear that the mandate in Tamil Nadu is for a secular government that is committed to protecting the Constitution in letter and spirit. The INC is determined not to have the BJP and its proxies run the Govt. of Tamil Nadu in any manner.
Accordingly, the Congress leadership has directed the TNCC to take a final decision on Thiru Vijay's request, keeping in view the sentiments of the state reflected in the electoral verdict.

How did Stalin lose despite such high economic growth in Tamil Nadu?
Actually, he lost because of it.
It is true that factory production has grown at a remarkable pace under the DMK - three times as fast as the rest of India.
But this has come at the expense of the states workers - often from the most exploited castes - who work long hours for poor pay.
This is especially true in the Coimbatore-Tiruppur textile and garment belt. Several investigations have revealed that young underage girls are employed in these factories, under a modern day variant of bonded labour.
Even in the more 'modern' electronics industry, wages have been stagnant for years and workers have been angry for a while. A case in point, is the 38-day Samsung strike in Sriperumbudur in late 2024, where workers complained of poor working conditions and low pay hikes.
But this is no different from other states with robust factory sectors. Everywhere real income of workers has been stagnant for over a decade, while profits have shot up.
What makes Tamil Nadu different is that its business class has a much wider base, unlike other states where a few families and conglomerates control everything.
This means, it is much more difficult for a party in power to develop a symbiotic relationship with the corporates of the state.
In other states, it has been historically possible for the state govt to patronise a few business houses, and in return get funding and financial heft to control institutions, including the media.
In Tamil Nadu, favouritism in govt contracts immediately gets a pushback from those left behind, because they also have signficant clout.
Stalin's govt has been accused of favouring a few corporates in doling out govt contracts in several sectors. The AIADMK even submitted a formal dossier, this January, alleging irregularities in govt contracts worth ₹4 lakh crore.
It is not that Tamil Nadu doesn't have large business houses. There are several - TVS, Murugappa, Amalgamation, Sanmar, Ramco, etc - and their relationship with Dravidian politics has been well studied by scholars. But many of these have had a love-hate relationship DMK-aligned entitites like the Sun group, owned by the Marans.
Although Stalin fell out with his cousins - the Marans - they reconciled and the relationship has been stable since then. There were even reports last year that Stalin had personally intervened to resolve disputes within the Maran family.
That is why Sun's shares crashed on the 4th, when it became clear that the DMK was heading for a crushing defeat.
The point is that Tamil Nadu's stellar economic growth hides internal tensions - from inter-capitalist rivalries to worker agitations - which erupt every now and then.
This time, these tensions have combined to push up Joseph Vijay, and take down MK Stalin.

I would welcome it if @TVKVijayHQ's newly formed government revokes the Goondas Act imposed on #SavukkuShankar. Beyond that, the #TVKVijay government must ensure a genuinely free environment for the media to function, with a clear commitment that the press will not be suppressed as it was over the past five years. Journalists who reported against the DMK faced systematic targeting, both through social media harassment and institutional pressure on their organizations. Many were even arrested for speaking out. This culture of intimidation, including late night arrests to silence dissent, must end now. @BussyAnand @AadhavArjuna @JhonArokiasamy

@ArunAnnow They handled anti dalit hate crimes far better than other governments in India or previous government in TN. He lost because of one cult, which transcend across caste and religion. I only wish is you guys are as critical as you were against DMK with new TVK government.

Much of the dissatisfaction towards DMK has to do with the way they have handled anti-Dalit hate crimes during the past five years.

The constant abuse and target of journalists writing critically against the govt was one of the worst downgrades of the #DMK IT wing in the last few years. Beyond comments, spaces were created for discussions to tarnish journalists. Many involved in these trolls and targeted attacks, were associated with the top brass of DMK and were given a free hand to go against critical journalists unchecked. The decorum and dignity in digital public discourse when @ptrmadurai was heading it completely went off when the mantles of IT wing changed

There is a teeny tiny group of women journalists WHO WORK IN THE FIELD across media houses in TN, who were called 200Rs DMK stooges by TVK goons when we criticized TVK, and presstitutes by DMK goons when we criticized them in our GROUND REPORTS. We are not a targeted group by just one party. Going fwd, there really is no change in the way how women reporters will be treated on-offline by male dominated political space, let alone how tech savvy anils will fry us hereafter for writing a critical story on THEIR govt. Athu sari, will they even take news stories serious?
Sad day really.
