Big bang theory seems silly: The mass expanding from a point would collapse within a billion years unless particles with rest mass could travel at light speed.

@ShriramKMurthi @nezikure @BIJapan Normally copyright is either granting a user a copy (they can do what they want with it) or a reproduction arrangement. It seems to me that the AI proposition is that AI should require a contract for reproduction. Otherwise it's just reuse of existing copies.

“Bernie, your socialism would never allow a SpaceX to be built.” Hey Bill, who got man to the moon? Was it the government or the private sector?
Bill Ackman@BillAckman

.@BernieSanders , it is a time to celebrate. @elonmusk has created enormous value for society by building @SpaceX, driving down the cost of rocket launches and creating a global satellite communication network that has brought high speed, low-cost internet and communication access to hundreds of millions and eventually billions of people along with critical advantages for our military and our nation’s defense. SpaceX and its technologies will cause an acceleration in the growth of wages and wealth creation globally, including in some of the poorest communities in the U.S. and around the world. Access to low-cost, high speed communications everywhere will allow children around the world to be educated, families to build businesses, and life-saving medical knowledge and care to be available everywhere. SpaceX will materially bring down the cost of compute, advancing AI and humanity. Meanwhile, 4,000 SpaceX employees yesterday became millionaires, including hourly wage employees who you claim you are trying to help. The Elon Musks of the world drive growth, global GDP, and provide access to goods and services at lower cost that would otherwise not exist. Elon’s nominal trillionaire status is due to his ownership of SpaceX, Tesla, Neuralink, the Boring Company and his other initiatives that have brought new technologies that improve our everyday lives. Elon is not sitting on a trillion dollar pile of cash, jewelry and gold. He is using his controlling stakes in his companies to advance mankind. Elon’s companies don’t pay dividends. They reinvest all of their capital to accelerate innovation and value creation. Elon is working 24/7 for all of us. He deserves respect and appreciation, not smears. Bernie, your socialism would never allow a SpaceX to be built. Socialism has only proven to impoverish mankind and lead to death and destruction. We need to create the conditions for more SpaceXs to be built, not attack the great entrepreneurs who are helping to advance our country.

The Ukraine biolab story has completed its journey: "Conspiracy theory" → "Russian disinformation" → "Fact-checked" → Official government disclosure. For years, anyone asking questions was smeared and censored. Now the intelligence community itself acknowledges a vast US-funded biolab network.

@PattersonSonny @BuenoForMiami @jpclemens There were other health benefits, including personal benefits (like reduced utility risk). That said, people do cut off body parts, that describes a fair amount of surgery (and dentistry).

@raudelmil @BuenoForMiami @jpclemens You don't cut off body parts for some distant, nebulous statistical effect that perhaps will have some causal relationship to some undesirable effect for somebody else, maybe someday under the right circumstances.

I used to think the average person had common sense. Then I started seeing people argue that kids can’t consent to “gender-affirming care” because they’re too young to make permanent decisions about their bodies. And I thought, “Cool, so you’re against circumcision too, right?” That’s when I discovered that applying the same principle in a different context is apparently an impossible task for a shocking number of people. So let me get this straight: if a kid wants something done to their body, they’re too young to consent. But if you want something done to their body, suddenly consent isn’t important? Sooo… you can chop up your kid how you want, but not how they want? How about we stop chopping up kids altogether? It’s a pretty simple rule: don’t permanently alter a child’s genitals unless there’s a genuine medical necessity. The fact that you like a particular form of mutilation doesn’t magically make it not mutilation.

Spot on. Putin is the Empire’s perfect Goldstein... The manufactured bogeyman to channel hate and justify endless war spending. The real irony is that he’s the relative moderate trying to manage a collapsing unipolar order without total chaos. The loudest Putin-haters have never opened an independent source in their lives. They parrot the daily Two Minutes Hate from the same corporate media that’s lied them into every war.
David Tetzlaff@davidtetzlaff20

Putin is the globalist oligarch’s version of a Orwellian “Goldstein”. In “1984” Goldstein is a scapegoat & a way to entrap rebels. For globalists Putin serves as a scapegoat & a target to focus hatred & war psychosis for the sake of expanding the globalists geopolitical hegemony.

@Fat_Electrician Nick you obviously never took the great George Carlin's lessons to heart. "Consider how stupid the average person you encounter is. Now realize half the people are even stupider than that."

I posted this assuming it would be abundantly clear it’s satire, based on how violently retarded it was. Apparently I was wrong, and it’s indistinguishable from a real opinion. If you don’t already know me. This means the average discourse is so fucking stupid it is entirely believable, that adults with the right to vote don’t know that 40 > 8. Being dumb to a satirical level is now impossible. I’ve lost all faith in humanity. I’ll be catching the first rocket off this planet.

The US has 1 trillionaire and 988 billionaires. Their combined net worth is about 8.4 trillion dollars. If we would just tax these people “fairly,” it would totally solve the $40 trillion national debt. And every other problem in society. Do the math, guys…

@DorothyEubank16 It's a bit more complicated than that. Tax policy for the rich needs to favor useful activities at the expense of harmful or useless activities.

A curious argument. The rich would have to eat money without farmers. Quite true. Farmers would also find money difficult to earn if nobody wished to buy what they grew. One begins to suspect that civilization is less a story of one class sustaining another and more a story of people trading value with each other. But that observation lacks the romance of class warfare.

More uptime than Wikipedia, and less bias. Or at least different bias, more likely. Most encyclopedia articles are written by "guest experts". I bought these on eBay from a library and then spent 3 days removing stickers, but it was worth it!

Islam is not the problem of the world. Terrorism is a problem. Extremism is a problem. Corrupt governments are a problem. War is a problem. Poverty is a problem. But blaming 2 billion Muslims for the actions of a tiny minority is not intelligence. It's prejudice.

Be brutally honest: Are you deeply outraged that, while hundreds of millions of Americans and I are struggling financially, Elon Musk has now become the world's first trillionaire, with more wealth than he could spend in 1,000 lifetimes? Yes or no?

can anyone ELI5 why software needs to be "maintained"? Like why do you need whole teams working on stuff that already works? Hardware doesn't work like this If it functions, it functions and does not need to be changed unless you're replacing something worn out.
