@rausanka @saketme @evowizz I wish Wi-Fi 7 (well, Wi-Fi 6 even), required Wi-Fi Aware support. Maybe Wi-Fi 8 can be set to require it + matching public APIs to get the certification? It'd look bad for Apple to stay stuck on Wi-Fi 7 once IAPs and smartphone vendors all advertise they have Wi-Fi 8.

For transferring files, Airdrop creates a direct connection between devices using AWDL (Apple Wireless Direct Link), which is Apple's own version of WiFi Direct. Unfortunately, Apple has kept AWDL private for its own benefit and refuses to open it up to developers.

@rausanka @saketme @evowizz Wild idea: a YubiKey that doubles as a Wi-Fi Direct accessory that a macOS app could use to do P2P communication with non Apple devices. Could also work for iPadOS over USB-C too, or with a Lightning adapter

@Louis_CAD @saketme @evowizz Standards are only as ubiquitous as those who choose to support them. USB-C has only recently been supported ubiquitously. Wi-Fi has many versions, some of which are not widely supported (e.g. WiFi Aware)
