The narrative around data centers is wrong.
They have always been a hard sell.
Data centers take up land, consume huge amounts of power, and most importantly create few jobs.
Beware of people trying to turn an incentive problem into a culture war story.

But wouldn’t the moat shift elsewhere, maybe to whoever can collect the most valuable edge-case data?
The models may commoditize, but maybe the feedback loop doesn't.

Young adults say online dating has killed true romance.
59% of young adults aged 18-24 want to meet potential partners in more traditional ways – on a train, at a dance or in a pub.
They said these were more romantic than their experiences and led to longer-lasting relationships.
68% said they failed to find love through dating apps or online.
And 33% were jealous of parents and grandparents because of how they found love.
Meanwhile, more than 55% of US couples report to have met online.

This is *exactly* what I predicted would happen. I said Chinese models would have advanced cyber capabilities within a matter of months and the only thing to do about it was to use AI-powered cyberdefense to protect our systems. Trying to gatekeep models doesn’t work.

I'm still astonished that 12 months ago most engineers wrote code by hand, and now most code is AI-generated.
Makes you wonder what's normal today that's gone by next year.
