@nikitabier @stefanoscalia The first time I visited the Bay Area working for a company in Milpitas I was so confused. Driving around Milpitas, San Jose, Palo Alto...like, what? This is it? Fair point about food, but the whole areas sucks.

@tszzl @apples_jimmy Just saw it, and I thought you might have been too harsh prior to watching.. but I ended up agreeing with you. They stayed unnecessarily safe and focused way too much on punchy funny writing. Was a nice watch, not overwhelmingly good.

@signulll I can't find myself agreeing here, but at most, willing to say that it is a harder road and far from over - increase in socio-economic status in cities have made a difference.

america is one of very few countries that has even tried to build a multiethnic democracy at scale, & the fact that it has a visible, loud, ongoing discourse about racism is actually evidence of relatively low tolerance for it compared to countries where racial hierarchy is just... ambient & unremarked upon. japan (lol very obvious now), korea, much of europe, india's caste system, han chauvinism in china, ethnic dynamics across the gulf states.. most of these societies don't even have the vocabulary for the conversation america tortures itself over daily. america is quite literally is one of the least if not the least racist countries on the planet, & it's not even close.

@atomicmonday @ConnorLounsbury It was a fun watch but don't think it stands up. Forced political viewpoints, and Aaron Sorkin Sorkin-ed too much (fast dialogue, walking-talking, etc etc)

@TylerMannino @WallyWestEnd @disparutoo They visually repeated all of it for a short movie. Several people in the thread including OP noticed it too, can't be that much of a coincidence :)

This is obviously not true. “The Rip” has a whole van scene that drags on specifically because it is spelling out the ENTIRE and very basic events that happened before it. It literally retells the whole story again before the final action scene. Now this shouldn’t happen, but clearly does.
Variety@Variety

Netflix executives "laughed" over the claim they demand movies and TV shows to restate plot points over and over for viewers. "We actually all laughed when we watched that bit at the Oscars, but there's no such principle," Netflix film boss Dan Lin said. "I mean, if you watch our movies or TV shows, we don't repeat our plot. So I don't know where that comment came from. Certainly, we are focused on making great movies." variety.com/2026/tv/news/n…

@TylerMannino @disparutoo It was a decent film, but it did exactly that in the scene. It's a good example too because Affleck and Damon also have publicly said in interviews that if is an expectation to repeat plots in streaming

@disparutoo You're being disingenuous. That scene is a classic twist reveal which needs to be explained. It didn't retell what we previously saw, it explains what was actually going on the entire time and without it we wouldn't know wtf was going on. The Rip was actually a decent film.

@sughanthans1 @tszzl @pmarca am kidding - it was the opposite :) Marc in a podcast said that he doesn't introspect at all, and this resulted in a big X debate

@darryn_briggs He got lucky for studying at Urbana-Champagne using the work of Tim Berners-Lee who basically invented the WWW on NeXt computers from Steve Jobs at CERN. Marc got lucky being part of the team who created 1 of the 1st usable web browsers. He got lucky, almost serendipitously.

@parmita We might not know much of him if he took action without introspection - there would be no book, and his achievements would have had to truly stand out for us to care.

@SydSteyerhart @tszzl Honestly we are falling for the obfuscation. The word was introspection. Marc has purposely shifted his response to address rumination. And we are here now.

@tszzl I'm being extremely reductive here, of course. But I do think it's worth separating two types of rumination: the kind that Arjuna does at the beginning (and is chastised for), and the kind he does with Krishna. I think Andreessen specifically meant the first kind.

@andre_antunes @pmarca David is such a well-read man who has read the many writings & introspections of some of the greatest builders...I was surprised he didn't piece it apart a bit. I think @pmarca has a point that you can't live in the past, but introspection is a part of learning.
