7) Become a reverend The Universal Life Church will make you an ordained minister… for free! But then you have to buy the certificate for $12. Or you can buy the whole “Ordination Package” for $35, which includes your certificate, a parking pass, a bumper sticker, and more!

And @Hertz won’t let me modify my reservation on their app. When I submit a support ticket, they want my name and confirmation number again, even though I’m logged in. These travel companies are catching up to the DMV and cell phone carriers in terms of lousy customer service

Why does @united take 1 second to cancel my flight and then make me jump through hoops to get a refund. No wonder they are ranked number 51 worldwide.

What if your AI assistant could help port performance-critical systems to more efficient languages, or identify opportunities to improve your data model? What if it could help reduce your technical debt while adding new features? What if it identified code for deletion rather than just adding more? @augmentcode

Ideas that seem good at first but are actually horrible: • Price controls • Rent controls • Benevolent Dictatorships • Tariffs/protectionism • Being super famous • Building in public • Being a New York Jets fan What else?

Story i heard in the 80s at DEC about the tech announcement for microcoded MicroVax. Someone in the audience asked if they had used microcode optimizers. An engineer on the dais said: "we don't need microcode optimizers. We have Dave Cutler"
Terence Parr@the_antlr_guy

Wow. Great idea: Train a model to understand intermediate representations and code generation. Boom! Ya got a tool to optimize, disassemble x86 code etc. scontent-ord5-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.2365-6/4…

Gordon Bell changed my life. He worked at Digital Equipment from 1970-1983, and as VP of R&D for Digital Equipment , he oversaw the entire VAX computing environment, the most successful 32-bit computer which altered the course of computing off of mainframes...
