I am not an expert in backgammon. I can say with full confidence that backgammon is not alive. I am not an expert in calculus. I can say with full confidence that matrix multiplication is not alive. "Oh you're an artist, eh? Name all the colors! *smirk*" is not the own you want it to be. It does not require extensive understanding in neuroscience and artificial intelligence to realize that there are orders of magnitude difference between the two. But if an appeal to authority is what you want, there was a good talk done recently at TED that quite well differentiates consciousness from LLMs, though I personally don't like the word due to it being imprecise in this context. In this instance, the burden of proof is on those attempting to make the tremendous leap of claiming their calculator is alive, not on those maintaining the sane, predominant position that, no matter how advanced, calculators are quite obviously not alive.

Everyone bragging that THEY understand how AI works and THEY know it can't be conscious, explain right now from memory why it was very clever that the positional encoding in the original transformers paper used both sines and cosines.
