Github:github.com/st-tech/ppf-co…

Windows 95 and 98 were certainly better than 3.1. No contention. Windows 7 was also better than XP. Windows 7 was almost impossible to bluescreen. XP wasn't. And 7 had massive security improvements over XP. Windows 10 was worse than 7, but not drastically. Definitely better than Vista and especially ME. Those sucked. I have used all of these operating systems. Except ME. Friend had it and hated it.

@kvickart @sean_gause Not making fun of OP BTW. It's funny that in the world of 3D anything represented by triangles is seen as fundamentally more real than any other form of representation. Are voxels more real or less real than tris?

@sean_gause @kvickart - I represent solid matter with a sort of papercraft figures made by projecting 3d triangles into 2d space - Woooah. You are truly capturing the essence of reality - And for finer detail I map discrete height samples to the surface of those triangles - Ha! Smoke and mirrors!

@lauriewired Computer monitors? I still think CRTs are better in many aspects if you don't mind the bulkiness and the particle accelerator pointed at your face.

How many technologies are stuck in a local optima? Big loudspeakers basically peaked in the 1970s. Obviously we’ve gotten somewhat better, but it’s a lot closer to: “a couple % more accurate” than “the average person immediately notices the +50-year technological progress” Miniaturization has improved a lot, so has digital signal processing, amplification. But take a high end setup from 50 years ago, sit in the sweet spot at the same volume…it won’t feel radically different. I’m trying to think of other fields where the underlying principles were so mature that half a century of progress in materials/software/electronics is underwhelming. Camera Lenses seem like a good candidate. Non-electronic instruments is another; it’s not like cellos have gotten that much better in the last ~300 years.

@nickmonad I use it but it's not free, it consumes like 20W and even though it's powered by glucose the whole system needs a bunch of different energy sources. Ohh and uptime is crap, you need to put the thing in sleep mode 8 hours per day or it starts performing worse than an LLM.

You may have noticed that the word for ‘night’ in many languages appears to be that language’s word for ‘eight’ with an ‘N' in front of it. English: N + eight = Night German: N + acht = Nacht French: N + huit = Nuit Spanish: N + ocho = Noche Italian: N + otto = Notte Portuguese: N + oito = Noite ⬇️
