Congrats to @Astranis on their massive Series E financing! We're going to be launching dozens of satellites to serve commercial, government, and defense customers in the coming months. 🛰️ @refactor led the seed back in the day, and is beyond impressed with the execution of this team. 💪🏽
John Gedmark@Gedmark

I'm excited to announce @Astranis has raised $450 million of new capital. All of it so we can scale to meet surging demand for advanced high-orbit spacecraft— for GEO, MEO, and beyond. This includes a Series E led by Snowpoint and Franklin Templeton, with Andreessen Horowitz, BlackRock, Baillie Gifford, Fidelity, BAM Elevate, Nimble Partners, and Friends & Family Capital, participating alongside many others, totaling $300 million. A delayed-draw credit facility by Trinity Capital adds up to $155 million of additional capital to support the addition of new manufacturing capacity and support future growth. This comes at a turning point in the space industry, and for higher orbits specifically. In our commercial business, we've seen more demand than ever for sovereign systems. As countries and large enterprises need dedicated, secure communications infrastructure. Something that can only be provided from GEO. For our US Government customers, Astranis has proven we can serve as a Neo Prime for some of the most important defense missions. And we are now spooling up to support multiple US Government Programs of Record simultaneously. Astranis has now been selected as Prime for the initial phase of 3 separate Programs of Record— PTS-G, Resilient GPS, and RG-XX/Andromeda. And we’re just getting started. This comes as Space Force is seeing one of the largest budget increases ever seen by a service branch with this year’s budget increasing to $71.1 billion. That is in direct response to new space threats posed by adversaries China and Russia. With GEO being where our most critical national security space assets are, we can’t afford to delay. We need to get new capability deployed with incredible speed, and Astranis is ready to serve. Special thanks to the Astranis existing investors who also participated in this financing round and have backed us from the beginning, including ACE, Elefund, Garage Capital, Helium-3, Liquid2, Metaplanet, and Uncorrelated. This brings Astranis’s total raised to more than $1.2 billion, and this capital goes straight to work.

SpaceX just launched its 1,000th Starlink of 2026. Today. April 14. LEO is now a crowded, commoditized neighborhood. The interesting real estate is higher up — MEO and GEO — where a handful of players (hey @Astranis) are serving entire countries with a single small satellite. Underrated trade.

"No one has ever successfully turned water into rocket fuel, not for a spaceship of any significant size. A startup called General Galactic (@gengalactic), led by a pair of 20-something engineers, is aiming to be the first." 🚀@refactor = proud investor! wired.com/story/general-…

Astranis builds micro GEO comms sats. Whether you’re an airline, govt, or independent company, officials and execs are waking up to the realization they need to control their own data streams to create top-performing teams, happy constituents, and make the best decisions. 💪🏽

Very excited to announce that Astranis is building a new satellite for Oman. We've signed a 9-figure contract with MB Group —the largest oil and gas conglomerate in Oman— to bring Oman its first dedicated communications satellite. This partnership was announced today in Oman with the leadership of MB Group and senior government officials from the Oman Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology. The deal is part of an overall $200 million investment by MB Group in sovereign connectivity, advancing the Vision 2040 program by the Oman government. This satellite will go up on our Block 3 launch later this year, going from contract to operations in months, not years. Sovereign connectivity is no longer optional. Countries need private, secure networks to know their data is secure and in the right hands. Astranis builds dedicated satellites that make this possible, giving our customer full control over payload configuration, coverage, and network operations. We are the only company that gives our customers a standalone, dedicated network that spans their geography of choice and delivers enterprise-grade security, customizability, and operational visibility of the network and data traffic. This type of infrastructure is impossible to replicate with shared networks or terrestrial links alone. And that's why countries like Oman and Taiwan are choosing Astranis. We built Astranis on the belief that access to secure, reliable communications infrastructure is foundational to growth. It's an honor to partner with MB Group and Oman, and we look forward to supporting the people of Oman and their digital future for many years to come.

I did the EXACT opposite 14 years ago for a Top 10 mobile and tablet app...and it resulted in one of the most successful app launches ever. Back in summer 2011, I was Head of Mobile at Netflix. As the PM, all phone and tablet apps were my purview, and usage was skyrocketing across dozens of UIs from Apple to Android, mini phones to phablets, iPads to tablets, etc. But, the app I inherited was just the existing desktop app (w/white bkgd below) riddled with 100s of bugs and feature requests for those multitude of UIs. No easy swiping of titles, horizontally or vertically. Browsing was beyond challenging on any touch interface. I made the unpopular decision to halt all work on the old app and built an all-new universal app for all interfaces with our small eng team. My team invented the “Continue Watching” row, which all streaming apps later copied, and focused on creating a beautiful browsing experience, getting users into content as fast as possible. The more streaming a user did, the higher likelihood they would retain as a member = both were/are key metrics to optimize for all Netflix PMs. In our A/B test, we put ~200k users in the old app and 200k in the new app. Usually it would take a few months to see statistical significance. In only a few weeks, we saw a massive jump in both metrics (streaming hours and retention) and turned it on for ALL members this week 14 years ago, a few days before millions of iPads, tablets, and phones were gifted and activated nationwide, many of which had Netflix pre-installed. Summary: there are multiple ways to move the needle on a product, and one of those is to simply start from scratch, take the interim pain of unhappy users on an old app, and give the world what it truly wants. 💪🏽

@RyanQualtrics @BillRMcDermott reminds me of the story of when Nat Friedman became CEO of github: - 9am all-hands - screenshared a list of issues users complained about - "today, we're going to fix one" - "tomorrow, we fix another one" - they fixed 100 issues in 100 days did i get it right ? @natfriedman

The US is running out of explosives. We used to get them from China and Russia. Can't anymore. This is an energetics crisis of massive proportions. Defense primes and startups are gonna be SOL without a US manufacturer in place. More to come... 😎 youtube.com/watch?si=BOdxo…

Sensor-fusion AI will refactor how critical industries operate. Founders blending messy, multi-modal signals—vision, lidar, radar, force, vibration, acoustic, chemical, thermal, and inertial signals individually telling different truths at once—are the ones with real moats.
