@jimbretzke If only disputes between bishops could be resolved by some sort of supreme bishop somewhere. I wonder what this supreme pontiff would have to say about the war?

@graceful_hazel @ArlieColes I haven't seen them, but some digging through Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music would probably have this in their minutes and reports. The 2003 resolution was referred to them to develop the propers.

In 2003, the Episcopal Church planned to add to the calendar a feast for The First Communion on the Moon, received by Buzz Aldrin on July 20, 1969. The feast was to have special propers and collects and was to be celebrated churchwide in 2009, the 40th anniversary of the event.

@ArlieColes I was resident in the Diocese of Dallas at the time. Our bishop walked out of the 2003 General Convention. I recall him using this resolution to indicate the un-seriousness of the Convention after he couldn't carry the day vs Bishop Robinson.

Sadly, this did not end up happening due to much Anglican turmoil through this time period. Nor did it happen in time for the 50th anniversary of the event in 2019. I believe that with enough enthusiasm, 60 could be the charm...

@LMSChairman Abolished in the sense of not a part of the church's official liturgy, and yet it is still done. A Catholic parish near me does Christmas Lessons and Carols. Both this and Tenebrae are worthy services of prayer and music but do make up the official liturgy of Mass and Office.

@tonyannett Sadly I suspect this would make Bishop Barron a martyr among his supporters and further the wedge between them and Pope Leo.

Perhaps it’s time for Pope Leo to remove Barron just as Pope Francis removed Strickland.

@IVMiles And the YRR movement was the hip kids departing the seeker-sensitive model for the decade prior. It's a long arc from Willow Creek to Mars Hill to Catholicism. What's next in this pipeline?

Today I will be consecrated the Prime Bishop Metropolitan of the English Reformed Catholic Orthodox Fraternal Tridentine Anglo-Lutheran Uniting Church. It is part of the one, holey, cat-lick, and apple-stolic church.

@mattswaim Thanks! I appreciate the clarification. On this site I sometimes see questions trying to bait people into saying something to affirm the Catholic church and then pounce. ("You use the Pope's date for Easter, so convert now!") I see your intentions in the question clearly now.

@revjawells No, not at all, and I did not mean to catch Episcopalians or any other more liturgically-minded Christian brethren here in some kind of trap, my question was poorly worded, should have said "Western" and "Eastern," not Catholic and Orthodox More directed at my low church friends

There aren't ANY short term solutions to the loss of traditional institutional Protestantism in the US. Reformation of TEC will take generations. The development of ACNA/Continuum into Institutions that actually influence our society would also take generations. Pick your war.

Common fallacy: the idea that a type of church “growing” means they are good/right Charismatics are growing fastest LCMS is shrinking The faithful are often very outnumbered by heretics

What would an American Anglican clerical hat look like? I know these things take time to develop but I feel like we’ve had plenty of time and nothing has developed. Not a saturno or zucchetto, not a kalpaki or kalimavkion, not a top hat…but what? A ball cap variation?

@RevJaredJones Coming from a social media post, this preaching style is dangerously close to Eddie Izzard's joke about Anglican preaching: "The sermon today is taken from a magazine I found in a hedge."

@RevJaredJones Poor scholarship. I have never read any evidence that this is a first-century double entendre. I have seen this exact concept float around social media. When our preachers are trained in the sacred languages, we have a strong protection agains the meme-ification of the pulpit.
