We are spending at least $500 million a day to bomb Iran. Imagine how many teachers we could hire, how many public housing units we could build, how many bridges and roads we could fix, if we spent that kind of money on improving life for working people?

Let the record show that, when a deranged American president threatened mass murder on a potentially unprecedented scale, the prime minister of Canada waffled some absolutely meaningless boilerplate then reiterated his support for the very same war.
Rachel Gilmore@atRachelGilmore

The reporter follows up by asking Carney: “do you regret your initial support of this war?” The point of this support, Carney replied, was “the ending of both that state sponsored terrorism and the nuclear ambitions of Iran.” “That remains the case.”

Stephen Lewis overcame his attachment to Zionism when the gulf between the myth and the reality grew too large to ignore. How about you, @IrwinCotler @CIJA @bnaibrithcanada @TheRWCHR @nicoslobinsky @AviBenlolo @richardmarceau? Do you have the moral integrity to do the same?
Avi Lewis@avilewis

My father Stephen Lewis is spectacularly uninterested in social media, so I’m posting this myself (though he has read it and is prepared to suffer the indignity of all I'm about to reveal). When he was Canada’s ambassador to the UN from 1984-88, Dad was truly shocked by the regularity of open, vitriolic antisemitism in the cocktail parties and ambassadorial receptions that surround that crucial but flawed institution. For this reason (among others) he’s always been the one in our family with the deepest atavistic fear of antisemitism. He was sympathetic to the idea of Israel as a refuge longer than the rest of us. This is no longer the case. Like so many Jews who for decades adopted the dominant narratives of Zionism, he can no longer defend the current actions of the state of Israel. He now regards Israel as a rogue state, committing genocide and other crimes against humankind, which ought to be opposed by every tool and tactic in Canada's diplomatic arsenal. To return to the personal, seven years ago my Dad was diagnosed with a vicious cancer and was given as little as 3 months to live. It’s a sublime understatement to say that he’s a fighter - but he has persevered in life with a tenacity familiar from his political, diplomatic and humanitarian pursuits. Which brings us to this morning, when at 87 years old, he spent an hour standing at the side of the road in his old riding of Scarborough West. Standing up as a Jew against genocide. Standing up for justice for Palestine. Standing up on the right side of history, where the vast majority of humanity currently stands. I’ve never been prouder, never more humble before the stubborn principle and insistent moral clarity of the guy I’m so lucky to call Dad. People of Canada: don’t stop talking about Palestine. Starvation as collective punishment can never be forgiven. Burning and burying children alive can never be defended. Stand up against genocide until we make it stop! Thanks Dad. And special thanks to @CharlieAngusNDP for shining his spotlight on Ted Schmidt and the other excellent folks who gather every Thursday at 8 am at the corner of Victoria Park and Kingston Road in Scarborough.

The unions that endorsed Rob Ashton for #NDP leader collectively represent 659,200 members. Ashton received 4,193 votes. That means fewer than 0.7% of members from endorsing unions joined the party and voted for him. #cdnpoli #canlab

New warmonger propaganda just dropped: "My friend in Iran thinks Trump and Netanyahu will free Iran and I can't be bothered to explain that neither of them care about Iranian freedom"
Nazanin Boniadi@NazaninBoniadi

People sharing voices from inside Iran calling for humanitarian intervention are often labeled “warmongers.” Here’s an example of a common message @roxanasaberi and I have received via satellite during the war—this, from a dissident and former reformist inside Iran. 🧵👇🏼

i couldn't give less of a shit about "the dominance of my nation's military forces." it's a completely unhealthy attitude to measure your country by the degree to which it can use violence to exert power over others.
Dinesh D'Souza@DineshDSouza

What red-blooded American doesn’t take pride in the dominance of its nation’s military forces? It’s one thing to be a sniveling naysayer—another to be a sniveling naysayer who says “make America great again.”

Those Iranians who excused Israel’s killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza now also come to excuse killing of their own compatriots in Iran. Sadly not surprising.
