@montie This is all a completely confected row, Tim. The previous gov made a promise they knew they wouldn't have to keep when they put forward the last fiscal statement. Their proposed spending commitments were uncosted, but the media didn't interrogate that. Why are they doing so now?

People with understanding of the public finances aren’t swallowing Labour’s line that things are much worse than they knew before the election. Does the Labour govt really want its first big public intervention to be based on a lie?

Surely the first thing to do is balance the books. (The ones she's had access to for years - so the 'worse than we thought' excuse won't wash)

I am happy to pay more tax to pay for that, as I said. Our tax system means that higher earners pay more as a proportion of their earnings, which I think is fair. Nothing to do with class

What are you cutting there? What about the NHS? What about social care? If these were all working I would support you, but they very evidently are not
