I’d be lying if I didn’t say this story worries me; advertising is too often a corrupting force within a business, leading it to chase short-term gains over long-term viability.

@kadams54 I use black and flake8 with a setting in project.toml to use 79 columns so they're compatible with each other

Python folks: what linter(s) and/or code formatter(s) would you choose for a brand new project? Bonus points for zero config/sensible defaults, using pyproject.toml for any additional config, and minimizing the number of tools in play. Because I ❤️ simplicity.

A viral social media headline falsely asserts that the CDC changed testing thresholds to “virtually eliminate” COVID-19 cases among vaccinated individuals. That threshold applies to whether there is enough virus present in a sample for further analysis. bit.ly/34oRhPy

@cstuckey56 Respectfully but strongly disagree. Impeachment is a necessary first step for healing. Trump and others (like the banned 60k) who engaged in seditious conspiracy (law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18…) need to face consequences for their terroristic threats, or we'll see it tried again soon.

@rick446 Impeachment is not the right thing to do for this country when the President is leaving office in a week anyway.

@brandon_rhodes I don't know if this is 'beautiful', but numpy lets you do np.r_[start:stop:stride] for np.arange or np.r_[start:stop:(steps)j] for linspace (the second one is particuarly questionable IMO)

I wonder if Python would have been even more beautiful if range(i,j,k) had been spelled int[i:j:k]. One less builtin. One fewer ways of saying “stop, start, step.” And—fewer characters? (I know, bad reason!) I’m undecided on whether it should also have worked for float.

@llanga It also seems to be calling "Gunicorn with meinheld" synchronous when it's actually greenlet-based async, isn't it? (meinheld.org)

If you've seen a blog post shared recently by somebody claiming that async frameworks in #Python are slower than sync ones, feel free to disregard it. It's using a flawed benchmarking setup and draws bad conclusions from it. 1/4

@zzzeek I'm probably missing something, but isn't gunicorn+meinheld using async workers? Meaning that the fastest 2 benchmarks are actually using asynchronous IO? (Or is the assertion that it's only *explicitly* async/await frameworks that isn't faster?)

Really enjoyed @HannahStepanek 's Pandas talk at #pycon2019. Great introduction and overview of how and why to use an amazing framework, with tips for getting the best performance possible.
