While the spotlight is often on Hindutva, we somehow miss the rise of Islamic orthodoxy in Assam. There are legacies of people like Bihu Oza Maimot Tatinga & Senimai, who were Muslims but played a vital role in reviving Bihu through their performances. They symbolized our shared heritage. Sadly, that landscape has completely changed. A friend of mine, who has a PhD from IIT though, chooses not to participate in Bihu dances because she, like many others, considers this dance form as ‘haram’ within her religious beliefs.

Personal: Assam Congress’ IT Cell Head Reetam Singh has been posting derogatory, offensive comments not just about me but also about my family.

Assam: Thousands of Muslim voters arrived late at night to vote ahead of the Elections.
A sudden influx of migrants by bus and train has led to suspicion among voters.
In Barpeta Road, thousands of such people arrived last night. On query, it was found that they are Muslim migrants working in different parts of India.
Most of them belong to Baghbar, Barpeta Road and other Muslim-dominated regions.
