@BenforOregon @GeorgesonBrent @alice_kinzer Resolving homelessness in Clackamas county isn’t a one person show. So many people in Clackamas county collaborated on the project. You projected so much onto the people who were involved and it wasn’t fair.

I have called and conceded my race. I called Sonya and wished her the best of luck. Our county is a bellwether of what moderate politics looks like. The pendulum swings every four years, and we've seen Commissioners wash in and out and serve non-concurerent terms. So I'm not surprised by the pendulum swinging again. It doesn't negate the work I've done and will continue to do on homeless issues and tolls, and on keeping our community affordable. It's unfortunate that the campaign wasn't as much about ideas as it could have been. Voters deserved better than my opponent's negative campaign based on issues not rooted in truth. But I accept the outcome, will work hard in other ways to serve because the work isn't done, and I know from great Oregon leaders who lost elections and came back to do more, like Dennis Richardson, that one election cycle doesn't change the trajectory of our lives; it changes the vehicle in which we deliver outcomes for our neighbors. I know I will have left Clackamas far better than I found it, and that is the goal of public service. Thank you so much to all my supporters, volunteers, my fellow commissioners, staff, and residents of Clackamas County.

The hotel didn't happen, but I did build a recovery system of care, an entire care continuum, and now we are breaking ground on a multi-acre recovery campus. You seem to be stuck in the past and ignore the vast improvements.

Except we can remember 90 days ago, before the Iran conflict, when OR still had the 4th highest gas in the US. Why, because your buddies and Gov. Kotek in Salem consistently increase fuel taxes and hidden fuel costs. Voters just said, "NO!" to another Dem gas tax increase!

Oregon friends. Something to think about when it comes to lowering the cost of housing and recruiting the jobs of the future: If the land area of Oregon was represented by a dollar bill, all of the developed and developable land in the state (urban and rural combined) would fit inside the small green Treasury Seal on the right side of the bill. That's every city, every town, every home and business, every industrial site, the places we work and live. The urbanized share would be represented by the small white shield in the middle of the green seal. That's about 1.2% of Oregon's total land area. We rank 45th in the nation for urbanized land. The small green scales at the top of that shield represents the undeveloped land inside our Urban Growth Boundaries that is available for future homes, businesses, and industrial development. And that land is further constrained by wetlands, habitat, and floodplain regulations. The land truly ready to build on is a fraction within the green scales. If we want affordable housing and jobs for our kids and grandkids, it's time to reconsider all of the growth barriers that were put in place by our grandparents who were scared of population growth projections before most of us were born. Pull a dollar out of your wallet and take a look. That tiny little scale, tied up under a pile of regulations, is where Oregon's future is constrained. Oregon needs a more balanced approach to land use.

Both sides of Housing First sidestep key problems: 1. The IMD Exclusion. Even our faith organization can’t serve the most severely mentally ill. Must expand safety net, end it. 2. I’m really sorry to hear this. The Mark I knew was incredibly smart, exceptionally insightful on crime analysis and entertaining as hell to listen to. I can’t stand how when ppl die, so often we focus on only their worst moment as if that were the alpha and omega of their life. Mark went on after OJ to spend his life drawing attention to some of the worst crimes/criminals/unsolved cases in the USA and offering what help he could to resolve them. Very sorry for his friends and family. May he rest in peace.
