@FlourishHusband @megbasham Yawn. You wouldn’t know what communism was if it smacked you in your sac. Your hypocrisy is quite telling. Elements such as your ilk hate it because you’re worried that you might lose power and influence.

I know I know, I'm gonna come off like a backward, simpleminded Bible-thumper for saying this. But the Bible literally has the solution to all of these problems. And what's sad is how much of the evangelical expert class derives a living from denying this fact.

Therapy was supposed to help people become more self-aware and resilient. Instead, too much of modern therapy culture is teaching people to externalize blame, pathologize everyday conflict, and see themselves as permanent victims. My latest in @TheFP thefp.com/p/therapy-cult… #TherapyNation

@megbasham Competent to Counsel by Jay Adams can give direction to any Biblically literate Spirit-filled layperson to be a Galatians 6:1-2 rescuer as 99% of mental illness is uncontested sin.

"A Theology of Biblical Counsel" by Heath Lambert goes over this: An optimal system of counseling can be wholly derived from Scripture from first principles. Inasmuch as other therapy methods are efficacious, it is because they resemble what a Biblical counseling system looks like.

Modern therapy is derived from the post modernist school and those men were not only nihilistic atheists, they were wicked and evil perverts. Freud, et al. And we’ve sent generations of children, families, and couples to these people who were taught with those men as examples and their ideas as gospel. Those same therapists, counselors, psychiatrists and psychologists also attended our college systems where the humanities are essentially Marxist boot camps. And now, biblical beliefs and values are considered evil. How many times have you heard someone say “we have a mental health crisis in this country.”? Is there really any wonder why? See: Romans 1:20

Not sure that the “biblical counseling” movement is the answer but clearly the current approach to mental health has failed and caused more harm than good, though it’s hard to sift through the broader damage from our secular post Christian culture and isolate the specific harm from the psych-mental health therapy complex.

@megbasham A lot of "therapy" has its roots in Jungian psychology. Peter Jones has written extensively on Jung and how his ideas largely spawned the new age movement and paved the way for the transgender/non-binary movement.

Yes, certainly sensitive counseling can be super important for areas like that, not suggesting that counseling is not needed because scripture tells us that we should bear one another burdens and confess our sins to one another, so I think that would fall under both of those headings, depending on what the psychological issue is. But my point is the things that he brings up in this article as the negative consequences of secular therapy culture are all countered by scripture. And if people used that as their standard of mental health, it would solve these problems.

@megbasham So a person suffering from trauma such as rape and abuse just needs the Bible. That is a harmful thing to say and people die because of these types of statements. Trauma and things like it literally change brain structure. You know nothing of what therapy actually is.

@MorganHousley1 Sex is between consenting adults. Marriage is between two adults who want to be together. Abortion is healthcare. Child sexual abuse material is banned. Minding your own business should not be controversial.

My thoughts are, keep your feminism out of the SBC. We have no need for counsel from those who are eager to be accepted among the Trinity Forum crowd and who hector Christian colleges to include fewer dead, white men in their reading lists. In other words, go be Methodist somewhere else.
Jessica Hooten Wilson@HootenWilson

I'm not nor ever have been SBC. But I think next year, round this time, a group of Christian women scholars should retreat to a internet free location and discuss the preaching of Perpetua, Hildegard, Sor Juana, Sojourner Truth and just worship the Lord. Thoughts? @laitylodge

@JeremyPatMartin @buckeyebettie This is a hugely ignorant statement. You are relying on bigoted stereotypes devoid of real facts for your judgment on this. You are comparing arranged marriages to child marriage. They are vastly different.

@rmhoffmanauthor @buckeyebettie Sure. An arranged marriage is usually "marry this person" and if you don't there are rarely no consequences, like being banished from the community, or war during feudal times. Or loss of money in wealthy families

@rmhoffmanauthor @buckeyebettie They can literally have ALL of that without a marriage. Marriage has often been forced into people, in fact arranged marriages still happen today.
