How a simple mobile app brought a developer several tens of thousands of dollars
A short story from @DenBenJoeBoe He recently sold a mobile app and shared this case with me.
Timur spotted a trend on TikTok early and launched a very simple product – an interval timer for Japanese walking. He was one of the first to launch, quickly captured search visibility, and ended up in the right place at the right time.
Minimal functionality, solid onboarding, a paywall after onboarding – no unnecessary complexity, just the right fundamentals.
Next came an experiment. Timur bought a domain, built a simple website on Typelink, added just 5 articles, and then mostly stopped working on it.
The result: about 20% of the app’s traffic came from the web. This likely helped the app stay at the top for a long time, even while competitors were manipulating reviews.
In the end, the app was sold together with the domain.
The overall result: several tens of thousands of dollars (revenue + sale).
Congrats to Timur 👏 A really solid case!

This is so true. I’m 30 and I feel weird watching dancing videos on tiktok just to see trends…

making a mobile app in 2026 means becoming as active as a 15 year old in his mom's basement on all the brainrot apps like tikt0k, instagr4m, and even youtoob SHORTS...

Been tinkering in @higgsfield_ai all day trying to do motion control with an ai influencer.
Not as easy as it sounds.

Hypothesis: if you offer a discount at the moment a user cancels a trial or subscription, some of them will change their mind and activate the promo offer.
I used this mechanic in my very first app – it generated up to 5% of total revenue back then.
Five years later, I finally got around to setting it up again 😄
P.S. This is part of Apphud base functionality

B2C App Playbook (2026):
1. Ship fast → weeks, not months. Ugly > perfect.
2. Pick ONE channel → TikTok, X, or Reddit.
3. Consistency > luck → 100 posts beats 1 viral spike.
4. Charge early → $5/month > 5,000 free users.
5. Retention compounds → growth hacks don’t.
6. iOS + Web first → that’s where the money is.
7. Win organic first → paid comes later.
Simple.
Brutal.
Repeatable.
If you want it edgier or shorter for max reach, say the word and I’ll tune it.

The situation with 0 views on TikTok is sad. But it’s also another reminder that you must test different distribution channels.
Relying on a single channel is dangerous. One algorithm change or a small glitch – and the business goes downhill.
Just a reminder: I wrote an article about which channels I’ve used for myself.

Just when I started to get into it… so what now?
