@ID_AA_Carmack @yacineMTB I ported a Unreal 2 game to the PSP, we had 4 players wireless multiplayer. Unreal would send the packet 3 times to reach each client. That made no sense since everything is broadcast. So I changed the stack so it merged the packets and identified the recipient s with a bitfield.

@yacineMTB You can get around that by sending broadcast UDP packets, which, by definition, can't be ACK'd. WiFi is literally broadcast anyway... I did that for long distance communication on my rockets.

When you stream Spotify to Bluetooth speakers or headphones, the audio comes over the network lossily compressed with Vorbis or AAC codecs, is then decoded on your device to 48 Khz raw samples, then the Bluetooth stack lossily re-compresses it with SBC or AAC codecs before sending it over the airwaves to the speakers. I don’t have “golden ears” to pick apart audio quality like I can with, say, missing gamma correction on texture filtering, but that still hurts my system optimization soul. It is likely over-optimization, but It would be cleaner if there were a way to send bluetooth-ready, compressed audio directly.

The Democrat government shutdown has forced agencies to evaluate what federal responsibilities are truly critical for the American people. Two weeks in, millions of American students are still going to school, teachers are getting paid, and schools are operating as normal. It confirms what the President has said: the federal Department of Education is unnecessary, and we should return education to the states. The Department has taken additional steps to better reach American students and families and root out the education bureaucracy that has burdened states and educators with unnecessary oversight. No education funding is impacted by the RIF, including funding for special education, and the clean CR supported by the Trump Administration will provide states and schools the funding they need to support all students.

I'm also making this trip on a semi-personal basis, my son will accompany me and I'll show him around the floor; hoping he has a great experience from this event! Looking forward to talking with you!

I will be at PAX East in Boston this weekend. If anybody wants to talk PlayStation emulation, I will be bringing a few games we have in development right now for the Nintendo Switch! We can go deep technical or just have fun!

Nothing will kill more children than the ongoing decimation of CDC, NIH, and USAID work to lift vaccine uptake in the US and world. Child survival rose 75% in the last 50 years. Vaccines account for 40% of that. Measles vax alone was 60% of the benefit. thelancet.com/journals/lance…

Since laptop died, I jailbroke a $150 Chromebook. I opened the case to turn off firmware write protect and install Fedora. No pgup/pgdown keys, so I patched my text editor to use ctrl+up/down for it. I don’t know how people that can’t do shit like this tolerate computers.

I don’t want to connect my coffee machine to the wifi network. I don’t want to share the file with OneDrive. I don’t want to download an app to check my car’s fluid levels. I don’t want to scan a QR code to view the restaurant menu. I don’t want to let Google know my location before showing me the search results. I don’t want to include a Teams link on the calendar invite. I don’t want to pay 50 different monthly subscription fees for all my software. I don’t want to upgrade to TurboTax platinum plus audit protection. I don’t want to install the Webex plugin to join the meeting. I don’t want to share my car’s braking data with the actuaries at State Farm. I don’t want to text with your AI chatbot. I don’t want to download the Instagram app to look at your picture. I don’t want to type in my email address to view the content on your company’s website. I don’t want text messages with promo codes. I don’t want to leave your company a five-star Google review in exchange for the chance to win a $20 Starbucks gift card. I don’t want to join your exclusive community in the metaverse. I don’t want AI to help me write my comments on LinkedIn. I don’t even want to be on LinkedIn in the first place. I just want to pay for a product one time (and only one time), know that it’s going to work flawlessly, press 0 to speak to an operator if I need help, and otherwise be left alone and treated with some small measure of human dignity, if that’s not too much to ask anymore.

If you’re more angry that a handful of 22 year old software engineers are writing code to uncover fraudulent government spending than at the people who are fraudulently spending your hard earned taxes, it’s time to do some soul searching

@mcnabbd @paulg There are two ways to optimize code. Bottom-up and top-down. Sometimes rewriting high level code is needed to avoid calling functions altogether. Ergo, understanding the goal and data allows us to avoid blind optimization.

@mcnabbd @paulg Trump mentioned the deficit with Canada. Remove oil and the US has a surplus. Furthermore, why care about a single country deficit? I have a deficit with my grocery store, yet I am still saving money.
