Countries get the cabinets they pay for. Singapore pays its Foreign Minister about S$1.1m, around US$800,000. The salary is benchmarked to 60% of the median income of the top 1,000 Singaporean earners. That is why you can get Vivian Balakrishnan, former eye surgeon and hospital chief executive, implementing @karpathy's external brain idea (link below). The speech shows deep understanding of AI and fills one with confidence about Singapore's future. The UK Foreign Secretary earns roughly £165,000: the MP salary plus a ministerial salary of about £67,000. The ministerial part is frozen since the crisis and is down by roughly a third in real terms since 2010. This is what a junior Magic Circle lawyer earns. Spain pays its ministers around €85,000. So you do not get a surgeon who has run hospitals. You get a party loyalist who has never run anything.

Singapore’s Foreign Minister, Dr Balakrishnan casually explaining how he built his own AI agent (a 2nd brain for diplomacy) using Claude & WhatsApp integration etc. on a Raspberry Pi “You cannot govern a technology you have only been briefed on.” 🇸🇬

One of the best things students and colleges can do is not bail on learning and teaching the fundamentals of any given domain. AI will trick you into thinking you don’t need to go deep in a particular area, but that’s wrong. The expert with AI is always going to be far more capable than the novice. Those that can steer AI agents properly, figure out how to evaluate their work, fix their mistakes, and incorporate their work into a workflow will always be the most potent users of these tools. The experienced software developer that’s built and scaled complex systems using agents outrun someone just vibe coding. The designer that uses AI will build far better products and campaigns than anyone else. The banker or analyst that understands financial models will be able to pull off far more with agents. Despite some of the rhetoric in the valley that this is less implement now, that couldn’t be further from the case. Don’t give up on going deep in your craft.

Ivy league kid reached out to me to ask me a few questions for banking recruiting Middle of the call asks me whether he should spend any time learning DCF and LBO formulas since all of that is going to be done by AI anyways in a few years We are raising the most AI reliant class of graduates ever. Imagine what happens in a few years when these same kids enter the workforce and can’t do anything without asking Claude first

The terrorists filmed themselves stabbing women’s genitals and decapitating their victim’s heads because they wanted to use it for future Islamic State propaganda. During the trial, one of the victim’s father described how his son had been disemboweled, castrated and then the castrated genitals had been placed in his dead son’s mouth. It took French authorities over three hours to take back control from a group of radicalized 20 year olds. In those three hours, these 9 young men managed to murder 130 men, women and children.

@Gavin_McInnes This is also why they kept the details of the Bataclan massacre very very quiet. If what actually went on that night was made broadly known, people would be horrified beyond their ability to rationalize it away.

Labour’s leadership contenders should treat this as a chance to win a policy mandate, not as a personal popularity contest. One of my regrets about becoming PM without a vote among party members was not having that chance. Today’s @thetimes column 👇 thetimes.com/article/76a4c9…

Britain now has hundreds of councillors who care more about the Middle East than about local issues. The growth of sectarian politics is one of the biggest threats to our democracy - but the Government just doesn't seem interested in it.

No smoking gun, but the preponderance of evidence points to smartphones, not economics, as the culprit for the global drop in fertility: • In the US and UK, births fell first and fastest in areas that got 4G earliest • Birth rates were stable in the US, UK and Australia until 2007; in France and Poland until 2009; in Mexico and Indonesia until 2012; in Ghana, Nigeria and Senegal until 2013-15 Each of these inflection points matches local smartphone adoption (see picture). • The younger the age group, the sharper the drop. • in-person socialising among young adults is dropping. In SK, by 50% in 20 years • Sexual dysfunction is higher among heavy social media user • Effect is largest in culturally traditional societies — Middle East, Latin America, sub-Saharan Africa • Decline holds across countries hit hard by GFC 2008 and those not hit, fast-growing and not growing. Excellent again @jburnmurdoch. ft.com/content/fba35e…

Superb by @jburnmurdoch: “In country after country the birth rate plunged after the introduction of smartphones, no matter what the previous trend was…the modern digital media environment has had profound effects on society that have led to a decline in romantic coupling”. ft.com/content/fba35e…

The idea of freedom of speech or knowing who your neighbor is does not make you far right or dangerous. It means you have common sense. The fear and tactic of being called a racist or Islamophobic has cost our countries too much Enough is enough.

I checked out Unite the Kingdom - lots of families, races, and normal people… few drunkards here or there but as you’d expect with such crowds. It was strange hearing so many English accents in London. And it’s strange that that’s strange. Our PM is very afraid of this.

Police say today's 'Unite the Kingdom' rally passed 'largely without any signficant incident'. Probably worth noting that at the 2025 Notting Hill carnival, 528 people were arrested, four people were stabbed, and 55 police officers were assaulted.
