@financialjuice Can't imagine many emergencies costing $400 or less in 2026. Maybe a locksmith or a local tow truck.

I've never understood this strategy. Having a good day at the Indy 500 is so hard - why distract yourself? Guess it's a money grab. 1075thefan.com/726870/katheri…

Doctors say that fluoride helps build strong teeth. A guy who snorts cocaine off toilet seats and takes raccoon penises home for “further study” says it causes autism. For busy parents, it can be hard to know who to trust.

Psychology says some people avoid socializing not because they hate people, but because they can read them too well. They walk into a room and immediately sense the fake laughs, the hidden agendas, the performances. Their nervous system doesn't misread the signal, it just refuses to ignore it. Small talk feels like a tax they didn't agree to pay. Forced smiles cost them energy that takes hours to recover. They're not broken. They're calibrated differently. They don't avoid people. They avoid emotional labor that leads nowhere. When they do connect, it's deep, intentional, real. No masks. No games. Fewer friends doesn't mean loneliness. It means higher standards. That's not antisocial behavior. That's emotional intelligence.

@JimDMiller @conorsen No doubt. Elders need to do this at a much faster clip. We've been trying to find a SFH for a year. Many of our friends have looked even longer. We all have lost homes to all-cash offers from couples 60+. We could buy a condo today before dinner. But my kid suffers for it.

This is a subset of the affordability debate but I think there are a fair number of youngish Americans with $200-250k household incomes who feel like that should afford a nicer lifestyle than it actually can in top 10 metros (in part because retirees still have the good houses).

@JimDMiller @conorsen Chicago has an endless supply of this. Boomers don't downsize into city apts. They're holding onto the SFH they raised their kids in, in school districts young families w/ kids are desperately trying to move into. No starter homes getting built there. Only luxury.

This whole thread/article is just depressing. People are just fucking dumb now. They create their own realities because everyone just gets news from social media that is tailored to confirm their biases. Like this kid is like 'i hate the tariffs. if you know anything about tariffs the costs are paid by the consumer!' and yet he voted for the guy whose literal only economic proposal to combat rising prices was TARIFFS!!! Make it make sense...you can't.
