Today the men in suits showed up to tell us what would happen to Idaho's economy if we took away the slaves. It started with who will pick our potatoes. Then who will milk the cows. And then what about the sugar beets, barley and onions. Then Idaho's tater tots and yogurt. Illegals feed our country- Idaho state ag industry cannot survive without them. We were told that it's important for Idaho to have illegals to frame, roof, side, tile, sheetrock, paint, finish trim and landscape our new homes. Not because they do subpar work for lower wages but because there aren't enough Idaho men willing to do the work. We are in a housing shortage- Idaho state construction industry cannot survive without them. We were told that it's important for Idaho to have illegals to make our hotel beds, clean hotel toilets and tend to hotel landscaping. We need illegals to wash our restaurant dishes, take out the trash and fry our drive-thru food. Idaho hospitality and dining industries cannot survive without them. I'm no rocket scientist but it sure looks like they are replacing Idahoans with illegals one industry at a time- Because Idaho cannot survive without them (or something like that).

So I won't “sign their pledge” (?) because they never asked me too for one, and besides that it's insane to me to pre-commit to voting for billions of dollars in spending months before the bills are even written or before I've even seen the bills. How is THAT okay? The pledge (see the picture) says a few things: fully fund maintenance budgets, no new employees, no federal money, limit growth to 1.2%. But the voting record of those who claimed to keep this pledge shows something different. H0248 (2025) had $255 million in “federal money.” They voted for it. S1109 (2025) had $680 million in federal money. They also voted for it. H0454 (2025) had $11 million in federal money and a +5% budget increase... I could go on. And before someone says 'those bills were maintenance budgets, the restrictions only applied to enhancements” that's exactly my point! You're telling me federal money is unacceptable in “enhancement” budgets but perfectly fine in “maintenance” budgets? It's the same federal money. Same strings attached. Same growth. You just moved it to a different column and suddenly all the rules disappear? Where's the "no federal money" rule? The 1.2% cap seems to have disappeared too. I'm going by what the picture says. Why does the 1.2% cap vanish for maintenance? Why are new full-time employees okay there but not in enhancements? Either way the government gets bigger and we’re more dependent on federal money. Government expansion doesn't change just because you call it “maintenance.” That's having your cake and eating it too. Oh, and someone will say the 1.2% limit was for “replacement costs” in enhancements because maintenance budgets “didn't include replacement items.” Really? Maintenance budgets don't need to replace worn-out equipment? Buildings don't need repairs? Computers don't need upgrading? That argument makes it worse. If maintenance actually grows beyond 1.2% AND needs additional money for replacements, you're looking at way more than 1.2% total growth. The math doesn't work. But the voting record also shows they didn't stick to the “fully fund maintenance budgets” commitment either. S1108 (2025) was the $5.3 billion Health and Welfare maintenance budget. They voted "no" on it. Good vote. So did I! But the picture says "fully fund maintenance budgets." Well, they didn't vote to fund that one. So when it came to the biggest maintenance budget, the vote didn't match the pledge language. You can't claim you kept your word while simultaneously bragging that you did the opposite of what you promised. It's all just so... unnecessary. Why pre-commit to support every maintenance budget anyway? Bills get drafted automatically based on last year's spending. You haven't reviewed them. But you already committed to vote yes on billions of dollars months in advance? Before seeing the bills? What do they call that? Rubber-stamping. So no, I don;t need to adopt or sign this pledge because I like to read bills before committing to voting for or against them. I vote based on what I actually see, not what I promised months earlier to legislation that didn't exist yet. Yes we decided to change how we do budgets a few years ago to handle”maintenance” separately from “enhancements.” So, we split the process. But that doesn't change the fact that you're still voting for the same federal money, the same growth, and the same expansion. Splitting it into two votes doesn't make it fiscally conservative. It just makes it easier to claim you followed rules that contradict each other. The pledge collapses in on itself. Federal money is still federal money whether it's in “maintenance” or “enhancements.” Budget growth doesn't become acceptable just because you call it “maintenance” instead of “enhancement.” Why is it okay in one bucket but not another? Why are new full-time employees “okay” in one pile, and “not okay" in another? Makes no sense to me. And it looks like the pledge got “modified” after the session with "replacement cost" language after the fact to explain votes that didn't match the original language. The pledge takers voting record shows hundreds of millions in federal funding that got approved. Budgets that grew beyond +1.2% also got approved by them. Even a maintenance budget got a “no vote” from them (despite the pledge saying to fund all of them). What's the point of a pledge if the votes don't match? There isn't one. Billions of dollars deserves scrutiny. Not automatic yes votes on unwritten bills because you signed a self-contradictory pledge months earlier.

Some personal news: what started with a late September call to temporarily fill in for a few weeks on TMM, has turned into an incredible journey. At the end of last week, I signed a contract with @2waytvapp to continue on this path 🎉 I could not be more grateful to @MarkHalperin and @seanspicer for taking a huge chance on me and then serving as mentors. Thank you to the production team for calmly and steadily holding my nervous hands those first few weeks. Thank you to the management team for your confidence. And of course, thank you to TMM community. I can’t tell you how much I love hearing from you, seeing your faces, and reading your “smack in the chat” 🤣. Here’s to the “peace, love, and understanding” road ahead!

Legislators come and go and in time, you will, too. While I appreciate the legislation you have crafted and your conservative approach to politics, show charity and good will toward those with whom you disagree (or even dislike, including, Heaven forbid, Democrats). Take some advice from an old lady and choose to “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Life is too short. The world of politics could use a little more kindness toward each other. Oh, and while I am at it, put away your cigars and would love to see a beardless Senator Lenney face! Sincerely, Not your mother but am old enough to be.

@TrueMattEdwards I agree. Rep. Mickelsen offered this same argument on the House floor only referenced businesses instead of schools. I thought it was such a stretch and ridiculous to boot. Now the Idaho governor offers the same nonsense. What gives?

Friends, Even after a tidal wave of support pouring for the Idaho Medical Freedom Act, Governor Little vetoed S1023 this Saturday morning. However, his reasoning is a bit perplexing. In his veto letter to the Legislature, he pointed out something that most feel is a really creative interpretation and a stretch of a simple line in the bill relating to schools. In the bill it states: “a school operating in the state shall not mandate a medical intervention for any person to attend school, enter campus or school buildings, or be employed by the school.” For some reason, the governor believes this somehow prevents a teacher or administrator from sending home a student or employee that is sick or showing signs of illness. This is as weak an argument as it gets. Sending someone home sick from school or work is as normal as work itself. Sending someone home is not mandating a medical intervention. It is the responsible action. The State Senate should therefore take up a vote, and with the full support of Pro-Temp @kelly_a_anthon Senator Kelly Anthon, override this veto and secure Idaho from any future misguided at best, tyrannical at worst, medical interventions that violate our rights. Once the bill is upheld in the Senate, Speaker @Mikeemoyle Mike Moyle should quickly to rally and lead the House to do the same. S1023 is the bill we never should have needed, but most desperately do. We ride together.
