This bill gave sheriffs a simple opt-out.
All they had to do was explain publicly why they weren’t participating.
That’s the ultimate balance of local discretion and transparency.
Yet the Sheriff’s Association still fought it.

HB 659, a bill to ensure Idaho law enforcement agencies apply for available 287(g) partnerships with ICE while providing an opt-out with public explanation, was killed in Senate State Affairs today. Thank you to Senators @TheBenAdams3, @kelly_a_anthon, Den Hartog, and Ben Toews for standing up for transparency and the rule of law. Public safety standards should not vary from county to county. Idaho should never tolerate sanctuary jurisdictions. The issue isn’t going away.

Idaho cities, counties and gov't agencies are big mad about the bill from leadership bringing enforcement against them for refusing to follow laws enacted by the legislature. H743 is held to work on with "stakeholders" but will be back.

Idaho was awarded the Just Serve state award at a presentation this afternoon. Many cities in Idaho have signed up to be Just Serve cities, and it's part of the @america250inidaho challenge with a Year of Volunteerism with 250k acts of service.

I was pleased to accept an award tonight from @TheFGA for carrying H239 last legislative session.
This bill was a bill for families to opt in to sex ed, giving control back to families.
Speaker @Mikeemoyle also received an award for his work on cutting taxes, district 10 was well represented!
