Important for the prevention and management of mineral and bone disorders from chronic electrolyte imbalance👇 doi.org/10.1172/jci.in… Robert A. Fenton @rofe6065 & team show that a diet low in potassium causes bone loss in mice, effects that are attributable to altered calcium absorption by the kidney. The figure shows deep learning instance segmentation model to identify kidney tubules and indicates low dietary K+ intake alters the abundance of the calcium-sensing receptor. #BoneHealth

🚨 Kidney + AI milestone 🚨 Never been more excited to share!!! We built Nephrobase Cell+, the first multispecies, multimodal kidney foundation model: Trained on ~40M cells Across 4 species (human, mouse, rat, pig) From 5 modalities (scRNA, snRNA, snATAC, CosMx, Xenium) Kidney biology finally has its own GPT moment.👇

We are heartbroken to announce that Prof (Stephen) Ben Walsh, died peacefully on 30th Sept while surrounded by family & friends. Both his family & @RenalUCL are raising funds to find a way to honour his memory and achievements. More info below: justgiving.com/page/in-memory… Ben's passion for science & medicine was an integral part of who he was. And after self-diagnosing with lung cancer 18 months ago, he decided keep his condition private to protect his clinical and academic work. Remarkably Ben continued to work throughout his illness, right to the very end, ensuring that his students, colleagues and patients were taken care of, and that all he had built would continue on. There are no words to really express the profound sadness we feel, the loss of a dear friend, colleague and mentor. He will leave a very large hole in our lives and he will not be forgotten. Details of funeral/memorial services will be made available in due course. We're also requesting anyone with pictures or videos of Ben to upload these to the Google Photos or Dropbox links below. We've also attached a link to a Google Doc for messages of condolence you may wish to leave for the family. Check out this in @Kidney_Int. We show that NHE3 is important for Ca handling, but that the distal tubule compensates when NHE3 is inhibited by eg #sglt2 inhibitors. A team effort >9 years @RiegTimo @h_dimke @Adri_in_Aarhus @fenton_lab and others 👏🥂🙏

Another important study from the @HibpK team led by the @PAWellingMD lab. It’s impressive how sensitive the potassium effects on BP are….
