"My name is Jules, that's true. I hope you have a nice day." - @nicedayJules
There is a meeting on my Google Calendar from November that reads: "BIRDS!"
Little did I know then what that would come to mean.
On that meeting Jules explained a concept he'd been thinking about for quite some time, one that began with self-reflection and a decision to look up. That is a story for another day.
On that meeting Jules introduced Birds and the architecture of a multi-layered system that he and a brilliant engineer named @mungimungimungi had been working on for half of a year.
I was blown away by what he presented. I asked some questions, we had a great chat and a few sleeps, and we met again plus Mungi a week later.
In the many months since, I've had a chance to see Jules in his element behind-the-scenes. Some takeaways:
Jules is an artist. He is someone that puts his skin in the game three-fold before asking anyone to take a first step. He agonizes. He obsesses. He is a soft and kind soul, yet he stands hard on principle when pressed. He is convicted in the space, in Ethereum, in the network, in his people. He will scrap twenty Birds and re-do them all because it has to be exactly right, it has to feel exactly right. He refers to Birds by name, adding affectionate descriptors. He is overly humble, yet when he is fired up the internal dialogue quiets and he shines. Jules is a star.
Jules would never say many of those things to you.
What Jules would say is that he didn't make Birds for him to look at. He made Birds to be participated with. Keep that in mind.
See you on Friday. More to come.
