@Lina_rays1ya The primary value in this is the message it sends to thousands of other soldiers. You won’t be left behind. So, they can do their jobs with confidence in their comrades. That, and the closely related morale boost, are well worth every penny.

JUST IN 🚨🇺🇸🇮🇷⚔️ Rescuing one pilot from Iran cost the US nearly $500M — two C-130s and two helicopters destroyed to prevent capture 🔥✈️💸 Was one life worth half a billion dollars? A) YES 🙋 B) NO 🙅

@DavidSamuelMay That kind of willful ignorance does not suggest an information problem. It is a philosophy/morality problem. This can only be addressed through a fundamental reexamination of the culture. And you need to walk away from those that are not able to reexamine their assumptions.

At a bar this weekend, I spoke with a random person in their young 30s. She mentioned that she and her sister-in-law have political disagreements. I asked her which subject in particular. She said: Israel-Palestine. So, I asked which side she stands on. She said she was opposed to Israel genociding Palestinians. Trying not to give away my position, I asked: What makes you say that? She said it was Israel killing 200,000 Palestinian children. I told her that was interesting because Hamas's death toll, which includes fighters, sits at around 70,000. At that point, she made it clear that she wasn't interested in changing her opinion. We have a propaganda and misinformation problem. It seems that many people have developed strong opinions based on lies. But perhaps correct information could help dispel the lies. Though, I suspect the truth doesn't matter as much as the narrative.

@LibertarianLars Not fair, but I’ll play: Government defends rights. Each word needs lots of exegesis, but that’s the concise (ok unfairly restricted) version.

Even if you had worked every single day, earning $5,000 a day, from the time Magellan set sail around the globe until now, you still wouldn't be a billionaire. You'd still have less money than Jeff Bezos can make in a week. No one works their way to a billion dollars.

At this point it’s obvious the billionaires are trying to kill us. What do you mean the new AI data center in Utah will raise the state’s nightly temperature by 20+ degrees???

🇺🇸 NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani criticized Trump for spending billions on killing people in Iran. 👏 Reporter: "Do you oppose the war in Iran?" Mamdani: "This war killed thousands of civilians, so yes, I strongly oppose it."🔥 Reporter: "Are you frustrated by $900 million a day being wasted on these wars?" Mamdani: "We're spending tens of billions to kill people. That money could help our own people instead.🔥🔥 We always have money for war, but never to feed the poor." Finally, a voice of reason from the US. We need more leaders like this pushing for peace. Respect.

@Ruth11665247 @glenn_tunes Citizens United limited the power of the state to interfere with the speech of peaceful people who happened to be pooling their resources. This makes it possible to compete with e.g. large news orgs. Is that what you oppose?

@mattduss It wasn’t a news report. It was an OpEd. An opinion about what one individual believes happened because of what he was told by obviously biased sources, most of them unnamed, and with no cooberation. And filled with absurd assertions. So that’s what they’re protesting.

It's not meant to magically double productivity. It's meant to account for the rate of inflation that the employer has already benefit from. Yes, some people may lose jobs temporarily, but when they get a new job they'll be better off. I'm tired of coin clippers trying to convince people they just have to accept inflation is going to devalue their wages.

The uncomfortable reality is that for many workers the transition wouldn’t be from $7 an hour to $15 an hour. It would be from $7 an hour to unemployed. A wage law cannot magically double someone’s productivity or the value their labor creates. If a position only generates enough value to justify a lower wage, many employers respond by: • Cutting jobs • Reducing hours • Automating tasks • Refusing to hire inexperienced workers • Increasing workloads on remaining employees So the workers who keep their jobs often end up doing the work of the eliminated positions while entry level workers lose the opportunity entirely. Paying market wages is not disrespect. The disrespectful position is pretending politicians can override supply, demand, productivity, and business reality without consequences for the very people they claim to help.

@JamesTate121 What if “taxing that guy” doesn’t help “this guy” at all? What if it actually hurts him? Does that matter at all? Or, is it still OK because it’s just so much fun?

Socialists: “Rich people didn’t earn their wealth and don’t deserve it.” Ok, then by that standard, why would anyone else deserve that wealth instead? What did they do to earn it? If earning isn’t the basis of ownership, then “deserve” just becomes a synonym for political preference and envy. At that point, property rights disappear and whoever has power decides who keeps what by whim.

You ever noticed that it’s socially acceptable to tell poor people how to spend their money? But when we ask the rich to stop hoarding wealth, the response is always “it’s their money.”

@SolLunix If that were the rules for calculating AGI, the tax rates would by much higher. Also accounting creativity would be far more valuable, and the “rich” would likely excel at that.

No one “earns” a billion dollars. No one can work a billion times harder than anyone else. There is no good, ethical, or righteous billionaire. That kind of wealth can only be accumulated through the exploitation of the working class. No exceptions.
