Our work on the comparative genomics of Aging in Rockfish is out!!!!! Thanks to the whole group at our lab and awesome collaborators for a fantastic team effort. @psudmant led this project from the front, @Greg_Owens provided much needed support to bring it to a finish 🙏🏽🪨🎏

Humans are literally walking around with novel, undiscovered proteins inside their gut. There is so much we don't know yet about the living world and that's incredible
Be the change you want to be@AgBioWorld

A new type of microbe discovered in the human gut! Called obelisks, they can create their own proteins that are entirely new to science. The team named their proteins “oblins.” Scientists scratching their heads about it biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

what are some current problems in biotech software? 💭 1) connecting the ecosystem of apps & instruments 2) using AI/ML for drug discovery and practical applications+productivity 3) plates/assay management and screening at scale 5) OS for lab automation what else?

@Mucus_Man @razoralign One prefilter the deseq2 developers is having the minimum #samples (10% or depends on your study size) with atleast 10 reads prior to running the DE analysis. Check the pre filtering step of their vignette. This is a common step for other DE tools too

Dear computational biologists/statisticians, I'm have a DESeq2 trust crisis and I hope someone can explain this to me: I ran DESeq2 on an RNAseq and got this volcano plot with a fantastic candidate gene (circled). A dream come true, right? /1

I was surprised and then deeply honored to be recognized by the @iscb award committee. I couldn’t have had all the opportunities without the illuminating mentorship of my advisors, the support of my colleagues, and the talents and tremendous work of my students. Truly grateful…

@AndreeaNRD @jpsenescence Prior boiling definitely helps. Post flavoring with dill and very less salt, and a pinch of chili powder or tajin does wonders

@jpsenescence Have you tried parboiling the sliced potatoes (roughly 7-9 minutes), draining, patting dry, then drizzling 1-2 spoonfuls of oil of your choice and mixing it well, salting to choice then air frying for 25-35 minutes?
