@SJPONeill @thefutureisrail I took the Northern Explorer to Wellington twice last year but would’ve done so more often if the schedule was better and the price aimed at regular passengers not tourists.

National Park's allure is eternal. You can be sure it will be on a rail cruise. But independent travellers/trampers/cyclists take trains too! Many people don't want to be herded around. Sign to #SaveOurTrains & return transport options to people across NZ allrailways.co.nz/petition.html

@thefutureisrail many have fond memories of being dropped off by the train in Arthur's pass for a spot of hunting, then back on the train for a warm cup of tea to go home. Halcyon days

Being able to take your bike to the train station & take the train long distances would be so fantastic (and liberating), wouldn't it?
Critical_Ass@CriticalMassAKL

@thefutureisrail For the interested viewer, bikes sit at around 16-21g CO2e/pkm depending on how they're powered. Obviously the best thing is to take your bike to the train station and take the train long distances!

Trawling through the albums for pics to show ⁦@BBCMorningLive⁩ when I pop up on the show this morning at 9.00 am. They wanted something from the 1960s which this is - but it’s not the one they’re after. I’ll be talking about my book, “Odd Boy Out” - set in the 50s & 60s …
