On that day, nothing else will matter except what you have done for God and where you are going. Your house, your car, your money, your sports will mean nothing on that day. You will be leaving time and entering into eternity. Meditate on that breathtaking moment. In the exhale of one breath, you will leave everything you love. Your wedding ring. Your spouse. Your loved ones. Your vehicle. Your money. Everything. Tonight, God could say to you, "This night your soul is required of you." Let such sobering thoughts consume you. Let them drive you to use your life for what matters, to reach out to the unsaved and make a big dent in this sinful world. There goes another minute. Gone forever. Go share your faith while you still have time.

Sometimes, I fantasize about living in a simpler time. A time before iPhones and 24/7 news cycles. Tonight, I watched two little boys with flashlights, looking for bugs in the dark. That’s when it hit me: They are living the dream I thought was gone — all because we intentionally created it for them. And when I put my phone away and stop thinking about all the things that are going wrong or what *could* happen, I get to live there too for a little bit. Perception *is* reality. It’s so easy to forget this. I am as guilty as anyone when it comes to allowing my social media feed to shape my perception of the world — and even my reality. But man, my reality is so good. Simple. The kids hopping in the truck in the morning. Eating breakfast tacos in the tailgate. Playing basketball in the driveway. Praying and eating dinner as a family. Looking for bugs outside in the dark. Reading books and snuggling until the kids fall asleep. This was literally my day TODAY. How could I ever want to live in any other time?! It does not get more simple or meaningful than this. I am so grateful, Lord for all you have given me and for all the things You continue to reveal to me. If you want to live in a simpler time, I have good news: you get to create the time you live in. Get dreaming and make it so 🙏

You can... • withhold internet access • withhold phones/devices • ban all inappropriate media • homeschool or christian school • oversee friend group/relationships • teach them in the faith constantly • play lots of board games • read books together • spend time outdoors together • take them to church • maintain christian/heritage traditions • love your spouse • discipline your children • purposefully make your home warm and comforting (even if just via thrift stores) • eat meals together at the table • play (some) video games WITH them • sing together • explore together ...and they will likely have an even better experience than you did in the 90s

Early each morning since we were married ten years ago, my precious husband has texted me a few verses from his time in the Word. Then he tweets one of those verses. Last Tuesday, he posted this tweet. The next morning he was admitted to the hospital with double pneumonia. Sunday he was placed on a ventilator. Tonight we continue to wait to see what the Lord has planned for him and for us. I can’t think of a better verse to take into the New Year. Thank you, my beloved. The Lord is our Helper. We are truly blessed. 💖
