Gill, babes, last year four of the classes in my dept only had a qualified teacher for three months. A teacher left last week and we can’t replace them. My A Level physics students have no teacher. Us striking is not the problem. 8 days is not the problem.
Gillian Keegan@GillianKeegan

Last year, school strikes resulted in 25 million school days being lost cumulatively. Children should not have to suffer a repeat of this disruption. I’m announcing that we will introduce minimum service levels in schools so that pupils get the education they need and deserve.

@MBDscience No absolutely not. I used to be all for this but there is a two year generation of teachers who got no golden hello & then no bursaries who would have less than five years left roughly, fewer if they work in London. They’re at the top of the pay scale so no pay rises. They’re the

Instead of another [unfunded] pay rise, I'd wipe a proportion of the student loan debt, increasing for each year teaching. Most of us won't ever pay it all off anyway, but it's an extra couple of hundred pounds a month in the bank.

Buying a home is such a scam. Solicitors inventing fees for all sorts of nonsense. The invoice I've been sent has added an entire year's worth of savings onto the cost of deposit. I had to work for a year to pay for this woman to essentially mail merge some paperwork.

Would your pedagogy be different in a classroom with 100% of pupils on free school meals compared to a classroom with 0% on FSM?Comment reasons below.

My entire timetable is just KS3. I reckon this is the closest I'll ever come to being a primary teacher.

@adamboxer1 How does just answering questions work for students who are beginning English? Are they answering in their home language? I would be very interested in your (and alls) thoughts on this as EAL provision is my downfall.

It's quite something that this has been BY FAR my most engaged-with tweet for months. Most of the engagement has been entirely negative from people saying they would have hated my lessons. My general reply: You definitely wouldn't. You'd probably love them. Because you'd learn loads, and have a teacher who was willing to put in the hours to make sure you were incredibly well supported in your studies, and never left with uncertainty about how to make good learning decisions. Learning is fun, and knowing things is better than not knowing things. Anyone is more than welcome to come visit and see me (or my substantially more effective colleagues) teach and judge for yourselves. Alternatively, you can grab yourself a Carousel Teaching account for a pittance and watch videos of it too.

No student in my class will ever take notes. Not an option. Occasionally, a student or parent will request it. The answer is always no.

@rosethechemist @ShakinthatChalk I imagine suddenly having your mortgage paid off etc frees you up psychologically. Then you have the freedom to choose *not* to do things, or reduce hours or even take a risk and change role.

I’ll get called a liar but I’m in the 2% here. I would carry on teaching. I might take a year’s sabbatical perhaps.

Teachers (In the UK), have you had lock down training? @kerryleelondon
Kerry Lee@kerryleelondon

@oldandrewuk @JamesPGoddard90 Never heard of this via any union. I have mates high up in unions who haven’t mentioned it. Loads of teachers I’m in contact with who are only talking about THIS summer. No one in London that I know in education has gone through training. I simply don’t believe you.

I look forward to seeing the results of this one tomorrow on @TeacherTapp - I personally cannot fathom why anyone who isn't doing the job anymore should continue to get paid for it?! Blows my mind.
