It was held at the Paddock Coffee Shop, a place with a max occupancy of 50 people. That is not a campaign collapse. That is retail politics. Massie’s district is blue collar. People work long hours. They do not all gather in one giant room waiting for a politician to bless them with talking points. You reach them by showing up again and again, town by town, room by room, cup of coffee by cup of coffee. That is part of why Massie has survived politically. He does not need one stadium moment. He works the district like a man knocking on every door while the consultants are still arguing over the font size on the mailers. And as for him “looking concerned,” that is subjective. A man standing in a coffee shop is not a political autopsy. Sometimes it is just Tuesday with bad lighting.

Thoughts about Japan: I got stuck in Japan during the pandemic for 9 months without being able to fly back home. At the time, I was staying in a 6-floor hostel in Ryogoku, completely empty except for me. The staff slowly became my friends since I had no one else in Japan. After the third month of lockdown, my money ran out. They noticed the slow decay in my condition. I was eating half a meal a day. One day, out of nowhere, they called me down to the reception. There was a big box, surrounded by several smaller ones. The staff had told their friends and families about me, and together they gathered groceries and essentials to help me get through those difficult months. There were even handmade face masks someone had sewn because they were impossible to find in stores. I was so overwhelmed with gratitude that I broke down in tears. From that day on, more than friends, we became family. Japan and its people embraced me when I was at my lowest point. It healed something in me when I needed it the most. Thank you Japan.

I do think Massie started out in public service for the right reasons and doing the right things. In March of 2012 he signed an oath to support term limits. He violated the first promise he made- to only serve 3 terms. He even wanted to make that law. He’s now running for his 8th term. The swamp consumed him.

I ’m flying to Kentucky because Thomas Massie’s primary is bigger than just one district. It’s about whether we are ready to welcome in the new era of representation or continue with the status quo. Do we want to allow big money and special interest groups to decide our elections? Do we want political yes men who just want to go along to get along? OR… do we want principled candidates agree with their party 90%+ of the time but when they don’t, they aren’t afraid to stand firm? I’d hope it’s the latter. And that’s exactly why I’m flying to Kentucky to support @MassieforKY this weekend.
