The only thing you need to know about the situation regarding Iran is that the United States has never, since the Barbary Wars over 200 years ago, accepted that a foreign potentate would be able to control freedom of the seas and demand tribute. It's the reason we built a Navy.

@BasedMikeLee If European democracies can no longer shelter under America's nuclear umbrella, then they will develop their own independent nuclear arsenals. Is that what you want? Why? What is the problem to which that is a solution?

The F15 was designed in 1972. The Gripen was in 1982 yet the F15 is still a superior aircraft in nearly every role in which it is used. Canada is buying Cold War tech that's already outdated vs. 5th gen fighters like the F35 because they dislike Trump. 🤦‍♂️ They showed us!

In all seriousness, Australia needs to start thinking what replaces its F/A-18Fs and E/A-18Gs in the mid to late 2030s. Certainly the MQ-28A could evolve into something that fills that gap, but I also think GCAP has to be an option as well, particularly as it is a bridge to a sixth generation fighter capability for @AusAirForce in the middle of the next decade. Somehow, I doubt we’re going to be able to get the F-47 NGAD. At US$300 million unit cost, it’ll be too expensive, and it may not even be available for export in any case.

America/Israel may have won the war on the battlefield, but Iran won the war on the waterways, paralysed the world’s energy supplies, and caused huge global economic damage. That’s why President Trump has moved to do a deal. It’s not a ‘historic victory’ or anything like it.

@AnnCoulter @AaronBastani @nytimes How about a policy to address the structural weaknesses of America’s foreign policy making process? You have nobody to blame but yourselves for this abusive and manipulative relationship with a nation that is 100% reliant on you.

Every single Trump advisor is now - off the record - telling the @nytimes they were opposed Netanyahu's argument for the Iran war. THAT'S how well the war is going. Ratcliffe: "Farcical." Rubio: “It’s bullshit” Caine: "Standard operating procedure for the Israelis. They oversell." Wiles: against "being dragged into another war in the Middle East." Cheung: "How would they explain away eight months of insisting that Iranian nuclear facilities had been totally obliterated?"

@DrDiGiorgio In my country the basic right is to see a family doctor, or an emergency physician. You only get to see the neurosurgeon if the family or emergency doctor refers you there. This is meant to reduce wastage of the human resource.

@gregkellyusa We aren’t concerned about the F word. Most of us use it ourselves. We’re concerned about lack of desalination if power plants are bombed. The bloodshed that would follow would be hard to control. To put it mildly.

The U.S. had every right to act preventatively in Iran. But Trump didn’t need to announce this attack at 2am from Mar-a-lago. He could have made a more persuasive case to the American people that now is the time to eliminate the Iranian regime. youtu.be/zoJ0Mw7wwZM?si…

@GordonGChang You're confusing radar with infrared. They're not the same. To oversimplify, infrared is invariably passive, but it only works within a limited range. Earlier in the war US aircraft remined at high altitude where infrared-guided weapons usually can't reach them.

If Iran has had passive radars from the beginning of the war, it should have been able to shoot down more of our planes. The fact that Iran has shot down only one plane suggests China or Russia has recently supplied these radars.
Brian Allen@allenanalysis

🚨 ABC News confirms: Iran used advanced passive infrared detection to shoot down the American F-15. Passive infrared detection does not emit radar signals. It cannot be detected or jammed by American electronic warfare systems. It is invisible to the technology America has spent trillions building its air superiority around.

@Aviation_Intel The politics of this can be surprisingly Machiavellian. If a so-called 'fourth generation' aircraft goes down to a missile, then a lobbyist for the maker of Fifth Generation™️ aircraft gets an important point to make in Congress. Even if an F-35 would not have survived, either.

And we have no idea what brought that F-15E down, and the Es do not have the MAWS housings like the EX. So let's not get this mixed up, but the threat is real and cutting there is absolutely dumb. Especially when they are getting EPAWSS.

Buying F-15EX and not springing for the missile approach warning system is absolutely the dumbest thing. $100M fighter, but let's save a few bucks on a key defensive advantage. You are not always going to get a radar spike from a threat, even at altitude.

@EthanLevins2 Because the F-35 doesn't work. It was not designed by aero engineers, it was 100% designed by political engineers. This latest farce is just one more in a decades-long story of incompetence. It would be laughable if it wasn't so serious. militarnyi.com/en/news/lockhe…

Why is the U.S. using F15’s? It’s 54 years old, there’s so many more advanced and stealth jets to use. I’m confused why they are using such ancient jets.
