Prayer is one expression of "mental work" by which we turn from the finite and perishing ("negative thinking") towards the Good and the Infinite. Prayer, among other things, is breaking the mind out of loops of negativity and "opening" up the possibility of Divine enlightenment and action.

Repetitive negative thinking might be a risk factor for Alzheimer's disease. In older adults, repetitive negative thinking was associated with buildup of Alzheimer's disease-related proteins as well as cognitive decline.
