I started tinkerin with the idea of automated video editing in 2023, after a Tiktok agency in Estonia proposed the idea to me. I used the OG of LLMs: GPT-4 to make edits to the code I was also writing manually at the time(crazy, I know! ) Made a really rough prototype in 2 weeks... The AI models at the time could barely edit videos and analyze video frames, but it did produce something somewhat coherent - unfortunately , not good enough for an agency who sold their content creation services for 150 bucks a pop. 2+ years later, after quitting the project 3x times, and spending billions of tokens testing, I managed to put together a production ready Agentic AI Video Editor using manual coding + Claude Opus and Codex (Noo, not fully vibe codedd :S ). - it kind of looks like a regular video editor, except there is NO timeline. Latest AI models are getting really good at generating videos (lol, remember Will Smith eating spaghetti) and auto-editing! I believe we are roughly ~1-2 years away from AI agents that can create & edit videos better than most humans. Shorz - coming soon. ITS OVER for MOTION DESIGN. Look, I will be honest - I don't see a point in people learning motion design anymore in some complicated vide editing software. AI is about ~12 months behind from website design in terms of production quality results.... BUT, it's getting really close with the latest models like Claude Sonnet 4.6 Implemented this into Shorz today - you can simply prompt ANY animation or motion design, and it will generate the code realtime in front of your eyes in 60 seconds. It can even generate images itself if it needs to or take your own images as input to create some really awesome motions designs. Will try to get the motion quality up next.

Yes,you need a single API key from aimlapi.com, which hosts ALL of the AI models that Shorz uses to turn scripts to video, or any other functionality. The reason is - you dont need to pay a monthyl subcription for Shorz and you can use it by paying per usage/credits instead directly to API provider. Essentially you can use Shorz for free with your own API key, but there is watermark on generations.

@Emarky How can an AI edit videos: Because, a video usually 500MB-1GB For an AI to analyse the video and add the b rolls, cuts, trim the video it is so hard and consumes a lot of power. Video editing is an art only humans can do.

@Emarky far from Publish ready, but it's a damn good step. The "steps" just start and cut off midway, the words cut etc. It just doesn't get the timing right. But soon it will, and it'll be glorious

LLM-s can edit if you give it a massive high level instructions on how to edit stuff + video frames(not just trsanscript). By default if you just say "edit this video" it will suck, ovbiously. It needs identity, specific instructions how to arrange, cut clips, where to add broll, for how long etc. I have been working on this for the past 2 years since the original gpt4. The older models could barely edit anything. Now, we are very close to good editing by AI. It still does make some mistakes as there is a random factor, but its already good for most use-cases and you probably couldnt tell it was edited by AI, if not told.
