One of the last artists I managed does about 20 million streams per album. That's $80,000 in royalties - not much on its own. But, they make 10x that touring the record. Why? They have an extremely high concentration of core fans. They buy vinyl. Merch. Limited editions. They buy concert tickets in numbers you wouldn't expect when seeing their 300,000 monthly listener count. These fans are worth far more than passive listeners, and they're the key to building a sustainable career - particularly for artists going their own path. This artist earns over $1m touring the record in year one & almost every category earns more than streaming: 1-Year-Earning Estimates: Touring: ~$1,000,000 Streaming: ~$80,000 Sync Licensing: ~$50,000+ Albums: ~$150,000 Soft Merch: ~$200,000 TOTAL: ~$1,480,000 Not bad for an artist 99% of you have never heard of. This isn't a superstar artist by any means. But they are proof that when done right, there are avenues for sustainability outside the mainstream. You do this by thinking about the shape of your audience, not just the size of it. By going deep. Not (just) wide.

One thing I'd love for the new AI on X to somehow fix is how large accounts can post low effort versions of stuff that small accounts worked on for significant amounts of time and get tons more engagement on it anyway.

Would be nice to fine-tune DALL-E 3 to create a clean separation between text that is to be literally printed in the image and text that describes the image, i.e. wrap literal text in quotes

I disagree to a degree, communication is a form of expression, I don't think it's the whole image though. An example would be pain, there is quite a lot of research regarding the lack of language to communicate pain in biological research due to level of granularity involved that can't be expressed with words

Can prompts be as expressive as art used to be? language is to communicate and art is to express and yet generative art relies heavily on communicate prompts for generation which might confine the expressiveness of art.

I’m calling it. Creative software is dead. It’s the end of an era. Creative software 1.0 was about separating specific tasks into domains. Vector graphics, NLE, motion graphics, image editing, 3D, audio editing, compositing, etc. are highly specialized fields.
