David Selwood, once a resident judge at Portsmouth crown court, was sentenced to a 12-month community rehabilitation order after authorities discovered dozens of illegal images on his personal computer. The material, involving boys aged between eight and 14, had been downloaded over several weeks. During sentencing, the court emphasized the seriousness of the offences, noting that such crimes contribute to the exploitation and abuse of children. While acknowledging Selwood’s previously distinguished career in both the legal profession and the military, the judge made clear that these factors did not diminish the gravity of his actions. Selwood had already resigned from his judicial post and admitted multiple charges related to the creation and possession of indecent images. His name has been placed on the sex offenders register, though the court determined that formal participation in a treatment programme was not necessary, instead recommending supervision and guidance through probation services. The case has sparked criticism from child protection advocates, who argue that Selwood’s past role in presiding over cases involving offences against children should be subject to closer scrutiny. Some campaigners have questioned whether previous judgments he delivered ought to be reviewed, given the nature of his convictions. Investigators were initially alerted after international authorities traced activity linking Selwood to an overseas website hosting illegal material. A subsequent search of his computer uncovered the images in question. In his defence, Selwood claimed he had accessed the material out of curiosity and denied any sexual interest in children. His legal representative highlighted the personal and professional consequences he has already faced, including the loss of his career and reputation. Officials involved in the investigation stressed that the case demonstrates that no individual is beyond the reach of the law, regardless of their status or position. LEGAL UPDATE On the 31st of August 2025 at a Bell Hotel protests in Epping, Essex Police ripped me from the crowd, put me in handcuffs and wrongfully arrested me for incitement to racial hatred. After spending a day in the cell I had my devices seized and I was put under investigation for two alleged offences; racially motivated criminal damage and incitement racial hatred. In December of last year these were dropped. I ended up being charged with “theft of a banner of unknown value” and attended a magistrates. I believed that I had done nothing wrong, I plead not guilty and demanded to drag the case to a Crown Court. In the meantime I started compiling evidence to prove my innocence and collected character references to show my good nature. The last half a year or so has been extremely difficult for me and my family and I want to thank everyone who has fought my corner. Getting arrested, the court case, statements made against me by a local councillor, the smears. Standing up for the people of Epping, against immeasurable odds, has paid a massive toll. However, it fills me with the upmost amount of joy and pride that I can finally announce that last week I was found NOT GUILTY. I will never stop fighting for my people. I knew I was innocent and had done the correct thing. Ultimately, I’m not sorry.

The victim was just about to leave for work as a night cleaner on Feb 6 this year, when Isaiah Foster and Abdul El-Kamh, both 21, repeatedly banged on the front door demanding drugs and money. They then moved to the back of the house where they smashed the kitchen window and climbed inside whilst armed with a claw hammer. Inside the house in Moston, they began damaging various items before moving upstairs. The woman had shut herself into her bedroom before they kicked down the door, Manchester Crown Court heard. Her daughter and her niece had been locked in the bathroom by the woman moments before and were helpless as they heard the woman 'screaming' and 'in pain'. Her daughter said: "We were shouting 'Mama', we were both panicked and did not know what was going on." In video footage recorded by Foster and shown to the court, they could both be heard to say: "Where is it? What have you got? Go get it now. Hurry up, hurry up." The woman was seen to stagger backwards and fall to the floor before El-Kamh repeatedly rained punches down onto her. Jailing them, Recorder Andrew Long said: "This was nothing short of a home invasion. This was a very grave offence with lasting impact on her. Anyone capable of beating up a lone, defenceless woman can expect a lengthy custodial sentence." El-Kamh, of Devon Road, Tyldesley, was jailed for 6 years. Foster, of Salisbury Street, Moss Side, was jailed for eight years with an extended licence of two years.
